We spent 2 months in Barra and stayed in a house in the local residential area. It’s a gritty town as some have said because of the hurricane damage that hits the place. Cobblestone roads, pot holes, dogs roaming the streets, dirt roads, all add to the experience. You can tuck away in the canals or the resort to avoid this if you wish. Some call it a “party” town, but I would describe it more as a music centre. The gringos here are mostly retirement age and have formed a tight community around multiple options every evening and night to go see or join an open mic for live cover music either in town or on the beach. The beaches are endless but steep, there is surfing in the Pacific side or calm paddle boarding on the lagoon side. It’s a small townso yeah the grocery shopping is limited but that’s part of the adventure. Try the local pescadaria and corner stores to see what’s fresh and get inventive with your cooking. There’s a fitness centre at the north end of town, pickle bar courts, yoga, surf and paddle board rentals, and lots of guided fishing options. All within walking or cycling distance.
To summarize: gritty, friendly, musical, and active.

A fantastic beach area, with lots of umbrellas and tables. Many restaurants there to serve food and drinks. Great place for the family or just for couples. Plan to stay all day, it’s worth it. Also lots of shopping to visit.

A fantastic experience, but not for everyone. We were trying to get closer to the peak and managed to get to the antennas - that is 14 000 elevation (about 4000m) and it's within a few hundred feet from the actual peak.

First off, this is one of the highest places in the North America where you can get to on a day trip. You do need a 4x4 truck or SUV, but no special skills. The road a bumpy but fairly straightforward. The road will take you to about 3500 m and there you can park and walk the last 3 miles (and about 1700 feet elevation) to "las antenas" view point over on a good road. After that there is a trail to the actual peak, we didn't go there, but it's probably another mile and another 700 feet of elevation or so.

Obviously, the views are fantastic and the place is an absolutely amazing. But just want to give some words of caution. This is a high altitude peak. Generally speaking, once you get above 10000 feet, most people will start feeling some effect and here you get above 13000 - it may get you really sick. So if you symptoms get worse - turn around and go down.

Manzanillo Bay is a beautiful harbor a great place to watch ships arrive and depart. It is a very busy harbor with container ships bringing goods in and out from Mexico City. The bay is close to “the center” which is full of tourists shops, Sailfish Statue and welcome sign. If you arrived by cruise ship, you’ll have great views of the bay from the upper decks and the ship will dock close to the town without having to walk through a container yard!

I love the sailfish sculpture, but we were unable to find any decent restaurant with an ocean view that was open for lunch. :( But I am glad that we drove here and wandered a bit.

Took my teenage daughter to zip line for her first time. This was a great experience for both of us. They were nice enough to make an exception for our small group, which made our trip to Manzanillo that much better! Provided transportation, which is always a relief. Wally is a fun guy to talk with and we had a good time. The pizza/salad at the end was super enjoyable. Educated us on their fruit trees and medicinal values. Nice addition to our days at the beach!

Enjoyable but short visit at this mini zoo. They have about a thousand iguanas that can roam around the property but they mostly stay in the trees. There was a small enclosure with the baby iguanas, most of which are rescues. We also saw some coatis, peccaries, and some raccoons. They don’t charge to enter but do ask for a donation to help maintain these beautiful animals.

The malecón in Manzanillo is easily walked, it isn't very long. I found it to be very pretty, decorated with sculptures along the waterfront, nicely ornate iron wrought benches under the canopy of lovely trees.
It gets busier towards the end of the afternoon when kids have their soccer game; parents 7 friends are there to encourage them and it becomes lovely with some shaved ice vendors, etc...

Audiencia is a bay with quiet surf. There are several resorts that front on it, and none of the restaurants are open to the public. If you happen to be staying at one of the resorts or condos, it is a pleasant beach - clean and quiet - but not a destination beach.

The beach has flattened out nicely since January. The morning fisherman haven’t been catching anything lately, but surfcasting is popular with a chrome spoon. Whales and dolphins make occasional visits and the pelicans provide entertainment when they are dive bombing. People are surfing and swimming, but be wary of the places where you can riptides.
