What travellers are saying
- digitalrocCalgary, Canada2,145 contributionsI drove to Neck Point Park as my last Nanaimo attraction to visit prior to taking the ferry to end my trip of the island. Neck Point Peak has it all, from hiking trails, beaches, and fantastic views, it was a fun and easy hike along the wide trails before saying goodbye to the city of Nanaimo.Written 24 September 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Jocelyne WOntario, Canada7 contributionsWalked from our hotel to walkway late afternoon on Sunday. Not busy but not deserted either. View of entire bay and several marinas. Clean, wide, relaxing. leads to a lovely pond and park. Easy to get back on track to hotel. Stairs to get down to walk. Unsure if there are ramps or elevators.Written 13 January 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Staci SVancouver Island, Canada61 contributionsFor my husband's birthday, we decided to celebrate by taking a trip down memory lane. We headed over to Newcastle Island near Nanaimo, where he used to go camping with his friends as a kid. Despite living in Cowichan Valley for over 35 years, I had never been there before. We explored the island, enjoyed the stunning views, and strolled along the beach during low tide. We even treated ourselves to some ice cream from the concession stand, where the staff was incredibly friendly. I'm already looking forward to going back for an overnight stay. The ferry ride was quick and easy to book online, but finding parking near the ferry terminal was a bit of a challenge. Despite that, I highly recommend a day trip or even an overnight stay at Newcastle Island.Written 10 July 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Danika DiStefano BQuebec, Canada144 contributionsSuch a cute spot for a short walk - bring your dog! Very scenic routes and not too busy. Plenty of paths to choose from, a go-to after work.Written 8 April 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Jim B5 contributionsWe have family in Nanaimo and every time we come to town we visit Westwood Lake. We really enjoy walking the trail around the lake. The scenery is very nice and the 6km walk is quite manageable for us ( in our 60s)Written 28 November 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - jjstars38 contributionsWe decided to reserve the ferry on the way back off the island as the long weekend was coming up.
We paid 20.00 with the agreement on the site, and we had to pay the rest at the ticket booth. We thought we were there on time, but it turned out the clock on my car was 4 minutes slow. So... we still got charged the reservation fee, but we're not able to go in the reserved line. It worked out, but we still had to pay the reservation fee. Also, it is free for seniors to take BC ferries during the week , Mon to Thurs but still cost us 87.00 for reservation and the vehicle charge.Written 30 August 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Easy walk, beautiful spring blossoms, serene, and lots of friendly folks. Finished up with coffee at the pub before catching the ferry back to Nanaimo.Written 21 April 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - gjsamsonAlberta, Canada683 contributionsThis museum was an unexpected find, tucked in the convention center. The museum gives an overview of Nanaimo. There are a lot of old photos along with what the city looks loke now. The museum gives the history of the coal industry that was mined in the area then how the forests industry have grown this city.Written 29 October 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - BerniceAlberta, Canada275 contributionsReally neat spot where you can go on a boat tour, harbour air flight, fish, picnic, visit some gift shops plus playground area and walkways for families.
Found the best postcard selection on the island!!!
Homelessness is a bit of a problem however like many places where people are hunched over in the rocks likely on opiates. Not great for people with young children.
Walkways marked with no bicycles not so many cyclists ignore which is also unfortunate.Written 24 June 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. They upgraded the hike down to the bottom of the falls, no more rope and risk.Written 28 February 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - rogertravellingVancouver, Canada25 contributionsNice place for a walk. Some steep sections but also easy enough to just have a stroll in the park. There are two lakes. Both look good enough for dip in the water but the upper lake has a beach that seems to be for the dogs. Lots of dog walkers by the upper lake.
A pleasant way to spend an hour or two walking. Visited late in summer and the water levels were low: so no water on the spill way and no water falls! But the trees were nice and cool to walk among.Written 27 September 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. We took a couple of wrong turns but thankfully you can’t get too far in the wrong direction. There were moments of caution though when we came across “tents”.
There were fish jumping below the falls and we saw crayfish in the pond!Written 30 July 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
