We didn't have much time before sunset but enjoyed the short hike along the waterfront. We intended to return another day but ran out of time. Would have loved to have spent more time hiking the other trails and enjoying a picnic lunch by the water

The walkway is not spectacular, it's not overly complicated, there are a few shops and sometimes you can walk down where the boats are which is kind of neat to look at. Mostly I like the ice cream shop, it's been there since I was a kid and is still a nice treat on a hot day. There is also a super cute gift shop, it's great for locals or tourists. Worth checking out for sure.

3 of us had a pleasant walk around the island. The concession stand was closed but we knew beforehand that it would be. We had to wait for 3 ferries before we got off the island. The wait on the dock was fine since the weather was nice.

Walking around the lake is something I've done with my Dad and with friends, and it really is gorgeous. There is so much to see and a really nice energy. HOWEVER you should absolutely bring water and make sure you're wearing good shoes because the walk is long and can be a challenge if you're not in peak condition. You can do it at a leisurely pace and again, it's very pleasant to do so, but don't get caught dehydrated, it's longer than people seem to think if you're a slow waker.

Good waiting area, comfy sitting places in the ferry, availability to buy some food and drinks, a small shop, nice view from the top deck.

Great kids park, my daughters really enjoyed the park and did not want to leave. The park was relatively well kept up. There are some signs of homelessness, like the washrooms being on the dirty as well as the needle collection bins. The bandstand had someone plying their trade, really well. Great listen. The free parking is an added bonus. The “Nanaimo” sign is nice for a photo op. If in town, especially with younger kids, Maffeo Sutton Park is worth a visit!!

I loved this museum. While not rivaling the Louvre or Van Gogh museums, this is a real gem of a place.

It was a great introduction to the history of the area. The HBC played prominently in the history and development of the area, plus the mining industry - coal.

It's a "pay as you want" museum, although the posted prices were super cheap ($3 or so).

While a small museum, there are tons of artifacts, the descriptions are fantastic and the interactive experience is memorable.

The gift shop has a great assortment of items, many at very reasonable prices.

Parking nearby was also super cheap.

Would absolutely recommend this museum to anyone.

Compared to some of the other parks in Nanaimo, I find Colliery a fairly easy walk. There are some steep bits or uneven parts, but mostly it's pretty comfortable to do. The surroundings are lovely and generally peaceful. It's a nice place to go.

The parking lot is a bit confusing to find, around a couple of hairpin turns, but the walk is easy and wonderful and good for any time of day.

Well worth the short drive from Nanaimo. The footing on the trail can be a little tricky at times. The Falls are great!

It's not really hard, just a few uphills and a bit of rock scrambling. The forest and then the shoreline are beautiful to see. We saw no whirlpools or seals, perhaps too much boat traffic that day.

It was a lovely walk for our family. We took a couple of wrong turns but thankfully you can’t get too far in the wrong direction. There were moments of caution though when we came across “tents”.

There were fish jumping below the falls and we saw crayfish in the pond!

This earth fissure can be an interest for some. The hike is a bit challenge in the upper region - to find the trail path. I do enjoy the view from the top.
