What travellers are saying
- Sarah Mcpake3 contributionsA absolute gem of a find 💎 Great drinks selection & food too. What really sells Hawkshead brewery is the staff (amazing) locals & atmosphere also the live music. The vibe is a one to be matched! My partner & I travel the lakes often but Hawkshead brewery has become one of our favourites, fast. we have visited here several times in the last couple of months as you are always guaranteed a good night.Written 13 January 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - chrisaA2623NSManchester, UK12 contributionsMyself and a group of my friends visit Ambleside several times a year & we always visit The Rule. We’ve been making the trip for over 30 years & the pub has hardly changed in all that time.
The cask beer is always spot on and you can hear yourself talk. Great pub.Written 17 March 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Gareth F1 contributionWhat a fantastic pub!! We all had a fantastic day/night in here. The atmosphere was fantastic and everyone was friendly. Whether they were staff working, or visitors from afar.
The beer’s on offer were brilliant!! Fantastic selection!! We were even allowed to bring our take away food in (for when we got home) after a very enjoyable day!! Keep up the good work! 👍🏻Written 30 October 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Loved the decor of the bar and restaurant area lots of different colours and wallpaper all worked well together
Staff superb truly I know most reviews praise the staff but these really are the best
Downsides
Check in haphazard as in there is no dedicated area for it , it’s just bumble into the bar and ask
Sunday evening was spoilt by the “ pub singer” VERY loud so loud that sat side by side could not hear each other talk !! Fortunately it finished at 8pm a relief for sure I play in a band so I know noise levels and that was crazy !!
Food
Ate twice late lunch and dinner both fab highly recommend the street food very good and great value and big portions too ( too much for us ) but everyone’s different !
Breakfast was also large and tasty plenty to satisfy everyone I’d say
Room
Big very well equipped en-suite etc
Bed small even though a double it was crowned so one too many roll overs and you’d be in the floor !!
Room very hot but was a fan provided so that was in permanently
There is car parking but it’s not obvious and you really need instructions to find it !
All in all a good stay few improvements and be top class !Written 14 August 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Timbo8463London, UK9 contributionsWe’ve eaten here before when walking the Pennine Way and it was a really nice pub in a great location
Unfortunately when I visited yesterday whilst on the C2C cycle ride it was closed down. I was told it’s been sold and will reopen in July 2019.
