Hello am a regular visitor to the Emporium. I decided on a cycle to Hampstead yesterday 18th . As usual we visited your market . I was browsing through framed prints / paintings etc at the Curiosity Cabinet unit . I was so pleased that i had found a found a small print that i had seen on line of a Victorian chimney sweep . So excitedly i called over the person looking after the unit ( see photo ) . We had a conversation about the print and discovered that it had a pair , in a number of a series , again a Victorian scene . So i proceeded to ask the cost for both and it was fifty pounds , which i thought to expensive for ME ! As you do , i asked if that was " the best price " . The person informed me that she could reduce the price to forty five pounds , which i thought was good of her, but still to expensive for ME. So i chanced my arm and asked for the price to be reduced to 40 pounds , which the person agreed to . I asked if she accepted cards and the answer was no , so i said i would go to get the cash . Then to my complete shock the person completely changed her attitude and sarcastically said " YES" intimating that i would not come back , which i fully intended to do , as i really wanted the print . So again to myself, a group of people sat outside the café next door and my partners amazement the woman launched into an angry tirade . " do you not realise that we are trying to make a living" . I at this point was a bit confused and replied to her comment , something like " yes I'm sure its been difficult ". I went to walk away still intending to get cash to purchase the goods , when the woman again with such a red angry face told me that " if i went to Tesco's , i would not barter for discount " , this was repeated to me again , twice !! I did tell the woman at that point how disappointed i was to be treated in such a manor in a place where i have had many a happy day browsing and purchasing from your different units. To be honest the whole thing has put me of going back . This is completely the wrong way to behave with a customer .Even now i am still in shock and was completely embarrassed in front of the café worker next door and his guests in the lane . Also inevitable my partner was extremely concerned for me and the way i has been spoken to . Definitely falls below the usual high standards of Hampstead and the Emporium. I look forward to you response Regards. Gary Campbell
