Can't believe that this is free - in London! On a rainy day we spent three or four rather educational hours wandering around this museum in a beautiful building.

Highly recommended for history buffs! Part of the Royal Museums Greenwich, this is a gigantic warehouse of maritime-related objects that also houses a conservation group. Really enjoyed a two-hour Thursday walking tour in a small group with friendly staff guides, looking at everything from astonishing collections of paintings to Admiral Nelson's tea cups to early charts drawn on calfskin. We also chatted with conservators at work. The collection is not near the other Greenwich museums nor other tourist attractions. But getting there took only about half an hour from Victoria Station via Southeastern Railway to the Kidbrooke station, which is a few minutes' walk from the collection.

I attended a "lunchtime lecture" at The Linnean Society during my last trip, and it's such a marvelous idea! The lectures are approximately one hour, so those who must return to work may do so, and there is also a reception upstairs in the beautiful library afterwards for those who can remain. I learn so many things I would not normally be exposed to at The Linnean Society and encourage all who travel to London frequently to get on their mailing list so they can book a spot at these lectures and so many other events which take place there.
