- HollieeeeRamsgate, UK215 contributionsVisited here with my godmother in June. Adored the shops, lots to see and plenty of places to spend your money! Some of the staff could have been a bit more friendly, but on the whole, everyone was lovely and welcoming.Written 17 August 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Neil KLiverpool, UK611,869 contributionsStonegate is one of the most historic streets in York and a street I always visit on any trip to York that I take .
Such an historic street, first laid out as Via Praetorian ,this was the Roman road that led to he Roman Basilica ,it gained it's name as it was possibly the first stone road in York but an alternative theory as to how Stonegate gained it's name was the stone brought in from Tadcaster Quarry to construct the cathedral took this path.
The street nowadays is lined with exquisite architecture both sides and there's some really good boutique shopping outlets along this street ,for me it's the fantastic pubs along Stonegate that draw me to this wonderful street,if you're planning a trip to York it's most definitely a street I highly recommend you check out.Written 24 March 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The stalls offered a range of things mainly targeting the many tourists. I needed some three pinned plug adaptors for my European continental devices and had fun with a gentleman haggling over the price in typical "turkish bazaar" style.
If you're hungry or thirsty there are enough street places around here. You don't need to spend too long here but it certainly adds to the flavour of the inner city centre of York.Written 15 July 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tip: give the clucking oinks a miss though, too salty and dry chicken. That’s a second disappointing visit. Greek got top reviews from friends though and nice ciders in top bar. Enjoy!Written 10 August 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Loved the way that the pictures moved or transformed from one image to another.Written 16 August 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - whitakers34Cirencester, UK23 contributionsI love a quirky shop and this was a lovely visit. You are welcomed with a smile and enthusiastic staff that lovely the product. The story behind the Gin is interesting and certainly fun trying Gin at 11.15 in the morning.Written 17 August 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - MedEnglandEngland2,302 contributionsWith the Jorvik Centre still not scheduled to open until April 2017, the adjacent St. Mary's Church offers a suitable space to tell the Viking story in York. The wooden boat dominates the display but the surrounding explanatory panels are very interesting and relate to accompanying artefacts. Also, there is an army of appropriately clad highly enthusiastic guides.Written 29 January 2017This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Jo PWoking, UK8 contributionsYork certainly has many unmissable sights but it's always nice to take home that little something you've discovered to keep as a reminder of your trip.
Pyramid Gallery is a little gem of a shop to discover on your walk through the Shambles. Full of unique quality arts & crafts, jewellery & lots more. I for one love to shop jewellery & was in my element surrounded by so many interesting designs. Two purchases later & I returned the following day for another two!
If I could wrap this shop up & pack it in my suitcase I wouldn't hesitate! Shopping made fun with such patient & thoroughly pleasant staff. Wonderful experience xxWritten 19 March 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The owner recommended the creamy raspberry pannacotta yesterday and it was just...chef's kiss! Easygoing, friendly guy playing great music and he was very close to the Jorvik Viking Centre. I hope we find him again next time we visit York.
I can't comment on the shopping experience as we didn't shop elsewhere.Written 22 May 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Tom MHalifax, UK3 contributionsI love ska punk especially The Specials. I saw that this gallery is running an exhibitoon from Specials main man Horace Panter! My Dad and I said this was a no brainer. We went over and met the owners. The show was excellent and truly stunning, the art work of their latest artist Imogen Hawgood is wonderful. We were tempted to buy one but we bought a Horace Panter print instead but we wiull be 100% back. We had a beer in the Kings Arms afterwards and talked about how important it is for a city to have good galleries. The daffodils are out and it's amazing to see Clifford's Tower look so good.Written 12 March 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - SOJO_8Cockermouth, UK26 contributionsIn a town with so much tourist art, it’s great to see an independent gallery full of contemporary graphic, street and thought provoking art. We enjoyed some inspirational chats with owner Craig and even brought a part of “Art Of Protest” home with us.Written 9 July 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
