The first time we visited we purchased a few smallish items, including a sweet clock and a bit of vintage jewellery the prices here are very reasonable compared to what we are used to in Hertfordshire. I contacted them a month ago and asked for some photos of crystal chandeliers about 1 meter diameter and 2 meter drop with some coloured glass features - quite specific I know but they had several to chose from. We hired a Luton van and drove up there last week and purchased the most amazing chandelier I have ever seen. When I've got it hanging will add a few pics.

Was here as part of a show for Bargain Hunt on the BBC and was most impressed. They have a wide range of Antiques of all kinds and I was most impressed with the ambience of the Auction Room. Will definitely need to revisit without the cameras

Went in looking for inkwells and left with a unique Indian toy. Person in shop was really helpful and able to give me some info about my purchase. Most items not inordinately expensive compared to most Edinburgh antique shops!

We visited the center in summer time. It's on the top of a dated department store. Very big area with variety of vintage and antique items. We found some lovely porcelain pieces and silverware. Good experience for finding something special.

Yes, this shop is a real gem. The proprietor however, is something else. While I am sure he might be charming should he so choose, I found him to be quite the opposite. He was quite rude and very patronising on the occasion of my last (and it will be my last) visit. Having bought several pieces here over the years, I have no desire to return.

Great collections and the smell of books inside the cost shop will take you down memory lane. New and old books are in display and you can find rate old books. A place definitely to visit while in Edinburgh

Lovely wee antique/obsha da shop full of wonderful pieces could spend hours in here looking through amazing items & speaking to owner A treasure trove of goodies for everyone with prices to match, from a set of beads to a piece of Venetian glass with everything in-between

The man who owned this shop, Billy Day, had been a great friend of mine going back to 1997 when I was working in Edinburgh as an IT expat helping to prevent the Y2K disaster. I moved back to the US in 1999, but everytime I visited Scotland I would always stop in and spend some time in the shop and usually at a pub. Years would sometimes pass between visits, and I would usually drop in unannounced, and each time he would light up and we would pick up wherever we left off, and usually he would shutter the shop and we would go off to a pub. Gruff, short, indifferent, all of the reviews mentioning Billy's demeanor are probably true. He either liked you, or he didn't. The last time I saw him was in 2018 during a visit. Of course he had aged, we all do, but at some point for all of us it seems to accelerate. I was supposed to visit in 2020, but Covid put an end to that trip. Wanting to check in on Billy, I rang his mobile, and his shop phone. Both had been disconnected. Fearing the worst, when I visited in Sept 21, I sadly found that his shop was a womens accessory store. It had been Bacchus Antiques for over 30 years. I did some sleuthing in Edinburgh and discovered through another Antique merchant that he had passed away. No details, but allegedly not Covid related. I've tried to reach his sons, but no luck. I believe their names are Stephen Day and Michael Day, and they live in London. I'm actually not sure, but he frequently mentioned them and if my memory serves me correctly...... I am posting this here in hopes that someone has more information and could pass it on. The Old Town and Grassmarket used to be full of antique dealers. The last one has gone. Please reach out if you know anything. The usual social media channels will work. Brad Ivy in Kansas City.

We had been by this shop several time during previous trips to Edinburgh in the last three year, but we were always there when the shop was closed. Just looking at the window display makes you want to go in. In August of 2019 we found the shop open, and what a treat. The shop deals in historical British and world maps, and original antique prints. It is one of the quaintest shops on the Royal Mile. We bought several antique whisky prints, and could not be happier with our purchase.
