Be prepared to get blown off the side of the hill. Great views of the castle. Maniacs jog up this blustery destination. Enjoy.

I was so focused on Arthur’s Seat that I nearly overlooked this gem but a tour guide recommended it. We were near the bottom so decided to climb up for a beautiful view of the city, Castle, and Arthur’s Seat. Doesn’t take long to climb and has lots of viewpoints.

We loved our visit to the Pentlands! We actually ended up using the Pentlands bike hire service - Pentland Cycle Hire. It was great fun and we were able to explore the Pentlands a lot more than we would have if we were walking. I would highly recommend.

Castle Rock is visible from large parts of the city. The Castle on top is of course the interesting part, and when you are on castle rock you can't really enjoy it.. There are lots of tourists on top of it.

A really great alternative to the full ascent up to Arthur's Seat with little compromise on the views. In fact, this vantage point offers a closer and wider view of the Old Town and buildings on the Royal Mile. There are many paths criss-crossing across the east bank of the Crags so you have the freedom to choose a range of inclines and ascents. Well worth the walk for the views. A must see in Edinburgh, an amazing sight.
