I love this golf course. The good news is - there is hardly any rough. The bad news is - the rough is replaced with gorse! Interesting, challenging holes and the view of Edinburgh are spectacular.

My friend and I went to Mortonholl when our cruise ship stopped in Edinburgh. About a 25 minute Uber from the cruise terminal. Pretty ride as you get a tour of the city on the way to Mortonhall. Very friendly pro, Fraser, got us set up with our rental clubs. Most players walk this course, but we took a cart. They only have 6 carts, so call ahead if you need one like we did. Course was awesome. Challenging for sure if you don't hit the ball straight (like many courses). The biggest adjustment for us two Americans was to hit iron approach shots that land in front of the green and bounce on. If you go pinseeking, your ball will frequently end up over the green - the ball does not "check up" like on so many US courses. We got incredibly lucky with the weather - 72 and sunny with little wind. I'm sure its a much tougher track when its windy and rainy. Cost was a bit pricey. Greens fee of 100 pounds; rental clubs for 40 pounds, and 20 pounds for the cart. Overall, a really fun experience if you are on a cruise and don't have the time needed to get to the St. Andrew's area.

Note - in winter there are three 'courses' open but you must have your own clubs and balls! They close the rental shop in September. We happened by a small shop selling used clubs, bought one 8 iron and two balls and played 9 holes. As a newer golfer, it really provided a sense of the origins of the game and was super fun. If we had more time we would have played it more. The locals just pop on and off the course as time allows. And it's free.

This course is famous for its views of Arthur’s Seat but it’s a good course in its own right & the clubhouse is comfortable & welcoming.
My wife & I enjoyed our visit.

Bruntsfield has undergone many changes since I was last here some years ago. These changes have made the club more accessible and the course much better. The stuffy jacket and tie Clubhouse has become much more relaxed. There is still great dining but you can pop in for a pint and a pie after golf now without shifting into mufti—a far more modern approach that I imagine most members will appreciate.

Many of the holes on the course have been redesigned and the old waterlogged feeling is completely gone. The green keeper came from Elie, and is working hard to build a more “all-season” turf. And there’s not a bad hole on the course. This should be a stop on every US golfer’s itinerary, although the club seems fine with minimal publicity. If you have the chance to drive the 12 minutes it takes to get there from the city center, it’s well worth the visit. If you haven’t been there since the changes, you’ll be amazed.

Let's get one thing straight, the virtual fly-over gives no idea how hilly this course is.
Friendly welcome at the clubhouse (not usual), nicely laid out course, good greens.
Not too much to think about prior to shots though and bunkers soggy, but the latter is understandable.
All in all, a nice day out, but you'll need your sherpa legs on

We had a great day at Kingsknowe- course was in good condition, excellent service from the professional and staff. Stunning views to the Queensferry bridge. It was our first game on the course and we’ll definitely be back.

My nephew is a member at this course. I was visiting from overseas and managed to get a game with him on the weekend. Excellent course with good greens, was a little wet from overnight rain but still great. Really enjoyed the day.

Retro menu at 80's prices last night! Lovely meal, prawn cocktail, rib eye with chips & peppercorn sauce, then Black Forest gateau, half a bottle of red for less than £30! Looking forward to the next chef night

We were on a guy golf trip and added this course before we flew out the next day. It is located next to the Edinburgh Airport so the sight of jets coming in was amazing. The first tee shot is up the steep hill so many of the fairways are up and down or around this hill or small bluff. Walking it provided good exercise for sure. The cost was very reasonable. Worth your time.

Wanted to play golf while in Scotland but many private courses are restrictive. Found this public course and gave it a try. The starter was very polite. We rented clubs there and they were pretty beat up which was expected. Course was very tight. Tee's and greens were close and just a very compact course. Fairways and rough were extremely thick and grass everywhere where it was cut high and wet. Garbage cans overflowing and bits of trash here and there. An employee was mowing on multiple holes while we were trying to T off and playing the hole. Facilities were also rough and not much to offer in the way of food and drink. Basically just vending machines.

The course was in excellent condition late Sept. It was good to play a course with a good variety of holes with 6 par 3's with none them bland the 2 par 5's one plays into west other east, interesting when the wind blows. The last 6 holes are recent addition to the course different from the other holes. The club complex has also 9 hole par 3 and driven range.
