Expectations were low given the free entry (our local botanic gardens are Kew, where adult entry is £21!) but ended up spending 3 hours here today, and would probably have spent longer if were here with friends or weather had been warmer.

Really beautiful gardens - so much to see, and so well kept (especially loved the rock garden).

Terrace Cafe was very nice too, with lovely cakes and tea, although thought £4 was a bit pricey for a fruit scone!

From Princess street turn right at Queensferry road until you reach Dean Bridge. Walk down and enter this totally different world. Leith walkway going to the Botanical gardens or Balerno. The houses here are really amazing and so close to centre.

Came for the Harryhausen exhibition and was not dissapointed. A wonderful array of sets, models and exhibits from all of the movies, beautifully put together with interactive elements and displays.

A treat for all Harryhausen fans!

My youngest daughter and I visited here for the Ray Harryhausen exhibition and we loved it.

For one I didn’t know this place existed. It’s reachable from the centre of Edinburgh but it’s off the beaten track. It’s in stunning surroundings which make you forget you’re in the middle of a city.

With both of us being fans of movies and in particular special effect films we went along to the exhibition.

The staff were brilliant and made us feel welcome and safe within the current guidelines.

There was about six rooms of items and displays from the special effects wizard and everything was spaced out with the current regulations.

It was amazing to see props from my childhood so up close.

We spent about forty minutes there. I’d rerun again for another exhibition- especially now I know about it!

Great park with wide open grass areas, children’s play park, pond and benches. There is often ducks and swans at the pond with marshy areas to walk through as part of a wildlife project. Gets busier when the weather is warm as it is very close to Stockbridge and Comely Bank areas. Good views of the castle on the slope down to the pond.

Dean cemetery is in a beautiful location near Dean village but is a bit of a hike uphill. This is a huge cemetery with lots of influential, important, interesting people like Elsie ingles, John Bellamy, Henry Cockburn, Agnes Henderson Brown, people involved with Queen Victoria, people involved with William Burke are all buried here and many more. It is worth doing a bit of research beforehand to find out exactly who is buried here and seeking them out. I wish there was a map or something as a guide, I visited at least 5 times, in search of specific memorials and still haven't found them all but there are beautiful interesting monuments but it's the ones that don't necessarily stand out that are worth seeking. There are no toilets that I could see in or around Dean cemetery so I was always on a mad dash to Princess street to find a loo, sometimes having to cut my visit short which was frustrating. But if your into historical graveyards, this is a must see.

Unfortunately closed! Come on RBGE!! Let's get the UK back up and open for business post-Coronavirus!

Now that masks are mandatory, as per government advice things should be opening back up. A little dissappointed with this, but I still give it 5 stars as the building is very impressive.

Artists' studios gallery so only open for exhibitions. 2 rooms but interesting work there - A VAU curated show. ‘Method (In The Madness)’ exhibits the work of VAU Members Vivian Ross-Smith, Laura McGlinchey and Emma Rogers alongside invited artists, Dominic McIvor, Davy Forsyth and Jen Bradley.

If you search for it on Google maps, use address otherwise you will be misdirected to Dundas Street.

Signposted on the Water of Leith from Stockbridge. A delightful 1789 replacement for an earlier structure over this medicinal spring. The fine Hygeia statue in the Roman Temple was replaced in 1888. The splendid pump room lies below and is not usually open to the public. The fine door is covered in grafitti and the only window is opaque so you can't even see inside. Lord Gardenstone paid for the well after experiencing the healing benefits of the spring water and employed Alexander Nasmyth, the painter of the famous Burns Porttrait, as the architect.

We relocated to the Stockbridge neighborhood in Edinburgh for six months. Lucky for us that the Edinburgh Leisure organization, which runs about 30 facilities, runs the Glenogle Swim Center near us. The facility was recently renovated, and is beautiful. Single use fees for the facility range from £7.80 for the pool and fitness center to £4.80 for just the fitness center; discounts are given for those over 60 years old. Since we are here for quite some time, we opted for a monthly fitness center membership for £31.00 per month each. A big thank you goes to Iain at Edinburgh Leisure Customer Accounts. He was terrific helping us sort the direct debit membership payment option; what a fine representation of Scottish hospitality.
