I must defend the Royal Yacht Britannia in light of any poor review. No visit to Edinburgh is complete without a visit to this lovely ship. I am only able to get to Scotland a couple of times a year to visit my family in South Queensferry but I cannot go home without another visit to this wonderful experience. The whole visit is a masterpiece of ship shape friendly professionalism. I feel as though I am about to set sail such is the welcome reception. Once aboard one is left to dawdle around with no warden or guardians to glare at you or tell you not to touch this or that, in fact I particularly enjoy sitting in the officers mess or photographing my family behind the bar in naval uniform. The tea room is wonderful, good value for money, very clean and staff although sometimes rushed off their feet, handle the large voume of customers with grace and efficiency. Leaving the yacht, even the obligatory gift shop offers a wonderful selection of gifts one actually wants and again, no silly prices. I always but always return to RY Britannia. A wonderful example of something (there are fewer and fewer each year) British one can still be proud of.
