I must defend the Royal Yacht Britannia in light of any poor review. No visit to Edinburgh is complete without a visit to this lovely ship. I am only able to get to Scotland a couple of times a year to visit my family in South Queensferry but I cannot go home without another visit to this wonderful experience. The whole visit is a masterpiece of ship shape friendly professionalism. I feel as though I am about to set sail such is the welcome reception. Once aboard one is left to dawdle around with no warden or guardians to glare at you or tell you not to touch this or that, in fact I particularly enjoy sitting in the officers mess or photographing my family behind the bar in naval uniform. The tea room is wonderful, good value for money, very clean and staff although sometimes rushed off their feet, handle the large voume of customers with grace and efficiency. Leaving the yacht, even the obligatory gift shop offers a wonderful selection of gifts one actually wants and again, no silly prices. I always but always return to RY Britannia. A wonderful example of something (there are fewer and fewer each year) British one can still be proud of.

Unique and charming. Everything almost made of gray stone. It causes some bewilderment and surprise with its old original style. It is raised quite high above the ground. It surprises with its multi-stage nature.

We took a guided tour and learned some great stories including the oldest recorded picture of the US Stars and Stripes ( in the prisoners of war museum, hint it was carved into a door) Great place for views of the surrounding area. If you want to watch the changing of the guard with a smaller crowd, recommend watching it from above

Fans of #Reign and #MaryQueenofScots would like this. Her embroidery work is preserved and under glass. Portraits of Mary are in a grand room. The furniture is very nice. This is the more formal of the palaces on The Royal Mile. Reservations required. A dress belonging to Queen Victoria is on display. Queen Elizabeth II lives here in August.

We LOVED it. You get the full experience. You learn the history of whisky and how it is produced in a very Disney style. The Guide is educational and you can see he knows what he’s talking about it. For the tasting, it’s best to take the Gold option, which gives you 4 additional tasting. We wanted to book the option with food pairing, but we were leaving the next time. This is a must go.

What can we say except, WOW!

We have watched the show many times over the years but it is lame in comparison to the real thing.

The ambiance, the volume, the audience participation...everything.

We were here during the Edinburgh festival, so the streets were full but the lines to the concert which holds 8000 seats, moves extremely quickly with the help of the many police and military personel.

We were lucky enough to have great weather throughout the show.

Fireworks at the end of the show help make this one of the most memorable experiences you will have in a lifetime.

Really enjoyed this wee island. We booked the boattrip including 11/2 hour stop on the island. The weather was nice and we had brought some lunch which we enjoyed on the bay/beach next to the abbey. The abbey itself is still closed, which we knew, but you can still see plenty and get a good view from the top of the island. Nice walk up to the top and wind your way down around the hill. Plenty of viewing points and lots of birds!
The toilets were clean and there is a wee shop where you can get souvenirs and some soft drinks. The trip to the island was a bit rough but most people found that good fun i think. Lots of seals in the rocky island before you get to Incholm which was really nice and we got to see all 3 bridges from the water. Really nice trip and island.

We saw a wonderful variety of flowers at this gem. The best part is entry is free ( although you may feel compelled to leave a donation) Grounds are well manicured and there is comfortable seating throughout with beautiful views.

I went here because I'm an Outlander fan and this is a primary filming location for part of the show. Everyone from the gate attendant to the guides was extremely kind and helpful. This estate is beautiful and full of history. The guide, Jennifer, was so helpful and knowledgable on Outlander information, but she also gave me so much history about the estate itself. It was a great experience and I would recommend any Outlander fan to visit.

The Edinburgh gin tasting was a highlight of our trip to Edinburgh. We learned so much and tasted some great gin! Our host, Mel, was prepared with interesting and informative tidbits between tastes, which helped to pace the event and give us time to enjoy each sample. So interesting! Afterwards, we got a 10% discount in their store, and picked up more at the duty free shop when we left Edinburgh. Highly recommend!

Old Small Medieval Type Village area. Leath Water way goes right through the village. Small waterfall, Dam.
Very Picturesque. Nice paths and walkways along the Waterway. LOOONG Walk from the Yotel Hotel, Edinburgh.
Seemed like a LONGER walk back. We did pass the Johhnie Walker Scotch Experience Store/Tour! A somewhat steep walk for us 70 year olds. BUT worth the Visit!

Great phot opportunity next to the train station. If I understand correctly it used to be the dump site for the palace. :)
