The Saint-Michel basilica was built in the 17h century in Baroque style.
The structire was during the pas decade.
The church is accessable from the coast via majestic steps
Also the interior is well worth a visit.
Admission is free, although a (small) donation will always be appreciated.

Everyone should see this place. So many different types of plants and the garden is planned really well. It’s really big as well, we couldn’t finish seeing the place within an hour

The ancient family graves are spectacular in their local way. The cemetery is uphill from the waterfront and is a great visit for goof walkers.

This lovely garden in the middle of a wide road goes all way from the casino up towards the station.
Some fascinating installations and art displays.
A few areas out of bounds as being repaired but shows they look after it.

I’ve bought jam on almost every trip I’ve taken (and regularly bought jam from a famous Parisian supplier) but Herbin takes the cake. If you’ve ever had a culinary experience that sets the benchmark by which all others are judged then you’ll appreciate Herbin. When you taste the mandarine or passion fruit it’s like the pure essence of the fruit with only the perfect amount of sugar and natural pectin added. You’ll find out how good a jam could be. Tasting is free and encouraged by a welcoming staff. They might have five jars open out of the dozens of flavors made. Of course, buy some Menton Lemon but delve into the others like Mimosa (light and heavenly) and the savory “jams” as well. It’s all made in artisanal fashion; only two machines (fruit cutting and sealing) so it’s all pretty much made by hand including extracting seeds, cooking, etc. Herbin is a MUST visit in Menton.

The coast of Menton was hit by a heavy autumn storm one night in October 2018 and the new museum partly underground was badly flooded. The wave that broke the basement windows must have been huge as the shore is at some distance. Unfortunately the Cocteau collection was the most damaged, some pieces beyond repair, the museum will reopen earliest by 2021. Some works by the artist can be seen at the old location nearby the Bastion and in the Wedding hall at the city headquarters, la Mairie. The impressive building is worth seeing on its own and is illuminated at night.

In France a civil ceremony is obligatory for all marrying couples based on Napolean laws. The murals, red velvet chairs and leopard design carpet are all works of multitalented Cocteau and still in use at the Menton Town Hall. A young girl in a typical local sunhat facing her husband-to-be, a fisherman fill the back wall of the hall as an altar piece. The artist made the original drawings with wedding guests and characters from the legend of Orpheus which were projected on the walls and executed by a local painter. A guided visit in French takes 45 minutes and costs 4 euros, it is available on Monday and Thursday. The English version is recorded and may contain different details as they depend on the guide.

An excellent choice of service-points, ranging from fish and meat, to cheese, bakery-products etc, almost anything! The historical building is well maintained and, in a positive sense, offers an atmosphere of "old-times". Additionally you also have the opportunity to buy flowers, fruits outside.

Even though there is nothing “exciting” visiting a Cemetery, it is worth a hike… there are several tombs of the end of 1800 area and from several nationalities (UK, Netherlands, Russia). The view of Menton and the Mediterranean see is stunning…

The Palmes Beach is the public beach near the center of Menton.
In contrast to the many (quite expensive) lidos a little further down the road, access is completely free.

We loved this garden which we visited in October.and there was still much of interest. We guess it depends on the type of garden you like. A lot of restoration has gone on, but it is on the wild side! We discovered plants that would normally grow in Australia. It had such a lovely feel to it and we loved "getting lost" following the paths. When we were there, we were the only visitors! Very helpful person in charge. You can also enjoy a very reasonably priced coffe.
