Grerat place to try different foods, lots of tapas. Restaurant on the top floor gets crowded pretty fast. Bottom floor has a great selection of hams and cheeses, and mistura ice cream which was great.

The Italian place was great, and the fish place on the 2nd floor too. Lots of people, plenty of places to sit and chat!

Great market, very friendly with fantastic range of produce. Craft stalls, food stalls, bars etc. Much less touristy than San Miguel (less flashy, cheaper and more authentic).

Mercado Vallehermoso is one of the best mercado's to visit in Madrid.
Whereas Mercado San Miguel is predominantly aimed at the tourist market this mercado is most definitely a locals mercado.
Set over two floors ,theres dozens upon dozens of stalls were you can purchase all manner of local fresh produce or even better you can sample great craft beers, wines ,vermuts and great Spanish cuisine sat outside the stalls.
This mercado is particularly popular with the locals but I have noticed on my last few visits more tourists such as myself visiting here.
My twin brother Stephen and I were here on a Friday evening, the atmosphere in here was superb, we enjoyed craft beer, vermuts and great tapa, vibe in here was really good, we stayed here for about 3 hours ,visited quite a few stalls ,had a great time before we moved on .
Mercado Vallehermoso is easy to locate, we jumped the metro down to stop Quevedo and walked down Calle De Arapiles and cut onto Calle Vallehermoso were you will find this mercado.
Most definitely well worth checking out if your planning a holiday to Madrid.

We wanted to get away from the touristy mercado experience. Mercado Barcelo fit the bill perfectly. We had a lovely lunch with locals (no English menu) on the top floor at Cafe Barcelo and enjoyed roaming the floors to admire the fruit, vegetable, fish and meat stalls. Noted that the Cafe advertised desayuno (breakfast), which if we'd knoiwn earlier would have saved a lot of money on the okay but expensive hotel breakfas.

The restaurant is located in an attractive interior courtyard that's not visible from the street. They have many good menu options; the sobrebarriga and pizzas were very good. Palm heart ceviche was an interesting, tasty dish.

This Market was only a few minutes walk down the road from our hotel. Here you will find plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables. There are other fresh foods as well, but this is primarily for things from the farm. Prices can be a little high but you pay for quality and that is worth it. Obviously, as tourists we could not buy much, but it is a handy market to come to, and buy your lunch, made on the spot!
