This is a great place to visit, You have the fountains where the water is coming out iof the ladies boobs. BUt make sure you also visit the visitors center which is right behind the fountain.also, this is the area where the tour buses will pick you up, like the hop on hop off bus. This is a lively area, and from this piazza you can walk to other great atttractions, such as the Anatomical Theater.

It is the most spiritual place in Bologna. It is also called 'sette chiese' as over the centuries there used to be 7 churches.
Mind you, they close for lunchtime.

A wonderful view of Bologna from above.
There are a lot of steps to climb but it is definitely worth it.

    Highly recommended!

Well worth it! Don't take a tour just walk it and bring a snack to have at the pretty gardens at the top. The small donation to walk to the tip of the dome is really worth the amazing views.

Free to enter, this is the main church of Bologna. It is a stunning site to see on the inside, so much beautiful art/sculpture, amazing stained glass. The meridian line made from brass in the floor is so very cool.

Archiginnasio is a hidden gem to visit in Bologna. It’s located near to piazza di Maggiore, approximately ten minutes walking distance. You can visit teatro anatomico and biblioteca comunale with just €6.00. It’s amazing how well maintain is a university who founded back 500 years ago.
    I strongly recommend a visit.

Incredible, had to ask someone where it was, as this wasn't immediately clear, but it was amazing to see history in action.

Easy to get to on public transport (Bus 13 from city centre of Bologna). Welcoming and self guided tour using free WiFi on your phone. Small collection but great history from the formation to modern day. Small gift shop onsite, but not in museum. You can on certain days pay extra for the factory tour, weekdays only I think. Best €17 I spent for a few hours of interest.

This is at the opening to Piazza Maggiore, very impressive and there is a water fountain on the right side of the statue.

We have visited Bologna three times, but it wasn't until the last visit that we made the Portico walk. It was a 9-mile day all told, and unforgettable. My only advice, is to start early because by the time you make it back down the hill, the restaurants may be closed for the afternoon nap (il pisolino pomeridiano).

We wandered in here by accident and it turned out to be one of our favorite spots in Bologna. There's a great cafe just outside the huge central atrium. And the ruins underneath are definitely worth a visit. There was a book reading going on and we enjoyed being part of the local culture.

Although it was a slightly unusual museum it was a wonderful insight into how our forbearers began to get us to where we are today.

These pioneers laid the foundation of our culture and science - you have to look past the somewhat dated but authentic displays :)
