Spent time in the Scuola on our first day in Venice, exploring the area we were staying. Absolutely fantastic building, so much to look at and admire. Was reasonably quiet at about 11.00 a.m. in March so got to see everything in detail. Get the leaflets to read about the place. The paintings and ceiling are so beautiful, impressive, stunning, amazing and sad. If that is not enough, you have all the remarkable wood carvings and the lamps, oh what lamps. Some really talented people years ago. Climb up the stairs and find even more to look at, including the preserved finger of St. Andrew?? Well worth an hour or so to be completely blown away.

Although less exuberant than Scuola Grande San Rocco, San Giovanni Evangelista has more defined spaces and is well worth checking out.

Gorgeous Bosco Sodi exhibit! Our highlight of our Venice trip. Definitely our favorite of the entire Biennale visit (this is a side exhibit housed in the beautiful Palazzo Vendramin not at Giardinni nor Arsenale) but definitely worth the detour! A must see. Absolutely love Bosco Sodi work.

Being able to check where Marco Polo lived was something very interesting because of the history behind it, but don’t expect to be something breathtaking though

This is one of many interesting squares you see on the long walk from san salute to rialto.

A huge dominating white church with an interesting figure either side of the front door, several outdoor restaurants and a couple of great shops. On the way out of the square there is a small pretty canal with a fabulous palazzo facing you.

I should preface this by saying we didn't book a tour at the palazzo, but stayed there for four days. My nieces and I went on a European adventure to celebrate the younger niece's high school graduation. We booked our stay through Airbnb primarily for the three bedrooms and three bathrooms. That's just a part of what we experienced. This palazzo has been in this family since it was built and the family line even includes a Doge (duke) of Venice. There are a/c units in the bedrooms and living area; there is an elevator; there is a lovely garden and courtyard. Our host took us on a private tour of the floor that has been restored to how the palace would have been with a ballroom, multiple Venetian glass chandeliers, etc. We found out that those rooms can be rented for events like weddings and is used for concerts. We were able to walk all over Venice from the palazzo and there are many lovely restaurants and shops in the immediate area. I recommend using a water taxi for arrivals and departures because walking from the water bus to the house with luggage is tough with bridges, etc., and the palazzo has a dock right on a canal. We learned the hard way and took the water taxi to the train station when we departed. I can't rave about this place enough!

... or were you referring to a place where some filming was done.

When in Venice we used "BRUNETTI'S VENICE Walks with the city's Best-loved Detective" as a guide book for our wanderings around the city ... it proved to be fun as we trod in his fictional steps.
The book zeros in on Brunetti's Apartment as being on corner of Calle Del Tragheto & Calle della Madoneta.
The closest images could be from GKK, Exclusive Private Suites.
Or for rooftop impressions maybe check out Aman Venice Grand Hotel's rooftop deck. ( Isn't this hotel magnificent !! )
Wasn't Brunettis view of the Grand Canal from the jetty at the end of Calle della Madoneta, rather than his illegal roof top sun deck ...?

The Book is by Toni Sepeda with an introduction by Donna Leon.
If I can manage to photograph some details from the book I will post them.

If you are interested the book " City Of Falling Angels" by John Berendts also provides superb background based around the La Fenice fire. Its a great read.

This small bridge crosses Rio de la Frescada and on the Dorsoduro side is an eponymous Trattoria. Though a late 19th century bridge (1870) it does not look out of place in this city.

Dating back to the 14th century. The School of Calegheri is in front of the church of San Tomà.

This little building is is the historical home of Venetian shoemakers.

One of the many palaces that line the Canal Grande built in the late 1500’s. It is a 3-story building with 3 entrances along the canal; the center entry portal is topped by a tympanum and mascaron. On the 1st floor between the outer windows is a Baldi coat of arms. Atop building are two twin spires. It is currently a governmental building and we only viewed it from the Grand Canal.

This was the 2nd place we used the Traghetto to cross the Grand Canal. This station is located west of Ponte di Rialto and runs from Campo Santa Sofia to the Mercato di Rialto. If you have it in your heart to ride a gondola, try a Traghetto. It is not as romantic as one with only 6 or 8 people, but at only €2, it is a lot cheaper. There are 7 stations along the Grand Canal, all may not be open, but if you find one it saves a lot of wear and tear on shoe leather.
