A fabulously beautiful area away that feels like a step away from the madness of the central areas. Lovely bars, fabulous stores, and of course some glorious canals too.

Rembrandt's house, built in the 1500's. It's mind-bogglingly luxurious for its time and one appreciates that Rembrandt really enjoyed the finest things in life. The self-guided audio tour is excellent and easy to operate. Be prepared to climb narrow spiral staircases (5 or 6 of them) to get to the top. There is also a fine display of etchings, some by Rembrandt but most inspired by him. They are from an independent collection bequeathed to the museum.

Easy to navigate the station. We made use of the luggage storage. Initially this was not easy to find but we eventually did. You can access this with a valid train ticket (could be problematic if you're not using the train). There were plenty of storage lockers, it was very busy and not simple to use. But prices were ok, €11 for a days use. We had one locker for 2 cabin size suitcases and our coats.

This palace is closed more than it is open. But when it is open, it is beautiful inside. It is not as large as Versailles, or as ornate, or as old. Many of the rooms were re-designed in the last 50 years. But the palace is beautiful. There is a self-guided tour or you can just walk around. They have some antiques, especially servingware.

A tourist hot spot without doubt though it does have some grand buildings to two sides and a national monument in the middle. Beware of the trams whizzing through the centre of the square.

We were on high paced sightseeing tour on amsterodam, Keukenhof and surrounding sights before COVID in April and this place was like heaven of calm that let me gather myself and get my strength back for rest of the exhausting trip. There is beautifull garden with benches to relax and church that you can enter and pray in if you are religious, or just admire the architecture if you are not. The only downside is that everything is outside, so you can get chilled easy, take a windjacket or something

The Amsterdam Canals are just incredible to see and experience. Whether you do it on foot or by boat, the character and history are without peer. Really you should do both. Some are commercial and busy, some are residential and quiet. All are uniquely Amsterdam. We were there in late summer so the weather was nice and the flowers were blooming. The people of Amsterdam are friendly and enjoy telling you whatever history interests you.

The synagogue and Jewish museum are on one ticket. It was a beautiful synagogue. Make sure you get to some of the outside buildings as well.

Its a large grassed area with the Rijksmuseum opposite the Concert hall to the south. Museums are to another side and a water feature (ice rink in winter) to the north. Not a picnic place but nice enough.

We were here for the 2Cellos concert.
The acoustics are really good, there is no backlash or annoying noise.
    Many bars and lockers.
    Great!

The Red Light District in Amsterdam is probably not what you would see in other countries so is possibly a fascination to tourists. It's a bit sad that ladies have to pose in doorways but the Dutch seem to have some safeguards in place but I do worry how well protected the ladies are.

Worth visiting out of curiosity but possibly don't make use of the services?

Then you will like the houseboat that is populated only by cats and kittens! Dog lovers might be as impressed.
