We couldn’t have wished for a better day in Crete. Christine went above and beyond to make our day special. We were able to see Knossos palace and museum in Heraklion and still visit a winery and olive oil factory. She makes the drive feel like nothing with all her interesting facts about Crete and educational videos. Just couldn’t wish for anything better. Now we have to come back and stay longer!

We really enjoyed our trip to Santorini and appreciated the bus pick up from the hotel, ferry ride, and bus transportation on the island. We booked online, so the explanation of how to get our ferry tickets and how we determined which bus to ride was a little confusing. But once we figured it out we had a great experience!

Really great experience with a friendly crew. My wife is gluten free, and we let them know this before the trip and they accommodated her needs with the lunch meal they make. I would recommend this to anyone!

Where do I start? We just spend 2 1/2 weeks in Athens, Napfoli, Crete (Heraklion) and Istanbul during January 2023 and our entire family of six adults unanimously agreed that the best day of the trip was our day with Ed. That's especially important as my 21-year-old son who is an engineering student with a minor in Islamic Art & Architecture insisted we add Istanbul to our itinerary... even with big sites such as the Hagia Sofia and Topkapi Palace... when asked he said his personal best day was in Crete with Ed going to Zeus's cave and touring the olive oil factory. Oh, and everybody put the lunch we had overlooking the Lasithi Plateau as one of the trip's top meals - two 21-year-olds wolfing down dishes that included boiled dandelion greens, green beans/zucchini and goat in a heavenly tomato sauce and loving it? It happened.

We followed the basic itinerary that Ed had listed, but he also customized it as much as possible when certain places were close by and if would be on the way or only a tiny detour, he made it happen. Five specific instances where he went over and above to include things we asked about:

    1) I had mentioned that I had been watching YouTube videos about olive harvesting which occurs Nov-Jan and when he saw an older gentleman with a truck just pulling out his equipment to begin harvesting, he pulled over and asked if we could give it a go. We each got a try and it was a blast. The pictures are priceless.

    2) I had mentioned that there was a convent nearby I had seen on Google Maps and on the way back to Heraklion he stopped by so we could see their chapel. This was really nice because we were only in Crete for three full days so didn't have time to get out west to where some of the more famous monasteries are located.

    3) Five of us were engineers and we had so much fun earlier that morning at the olive oil factory that he took us to a second one that he knew was actually operating that day so we could see the process live. Ed knows just about everybody on the island.

    4) I had mentioned that I had read an article about Crete's 'banana villages' and he pulled into the next town so we could get out of the car and take 5 mins to walk around a banana plantation.

    5) I knew we were arriving in Heraklion (by overnight ferry from Athens) the morning of the Epiphany celebration so before we left the states, I tried to get on the local church's website to find out the schedule of events, but it was all in Greek with no English translation. I reached out to Ed on WhatsApp and he said he would look into it resulting in him sending me a snapshot of their program in English. On that day (which was the day prior to ours with him) my family got to join the procession down to the harbor and watch the cities' youngsters jump into the sea to grab the crucifix for a year of good luck.

Lastly, our whole family felt safe with Ed driving. People from Crete don't exactly follow the same kinds of rules that we do here in the states, but it was obvious we were in capable hands. We only later truly appreciated this after renting a car in Athens and driving out to Napflio. The interstate in the Peloponesse was fine, but the towns? It was nerve wracking. And in Istanbul... we didn't have a driver who wasn't simultaneously facetiming and texting while doing 90 mph in the left-hand lane. Terrifying.

We had so much fun that we hired him for a half day the next day so that probably says everything. Our only regret is that we wish we could have stayed it Crete longer. Next time we're in Crete we're definitely calling Ed

It was a really nice day. The crew was super nice with our kids and the food was really good.
We had big waves that day. Which meant that the second stop was canceled and the tour was only 3 hours. They didn’t really tell everyone about that which was not so good.

After a phenomenal catamaran experience in Santorini a few years ago we decided to try another during our stay in Crete this past summer. Although similar this experience was truly unique as the boat was a little smaller and we enjoyed the day with another family who were fun and great company. The voyage from Heraklion to Dia and back was very pleasant with great views of the island that cannot be experienced any other way. The time we spent at Dia was incredible with some of the truly bluest (if that is a word) water we have seen that was ideal for those that took full opportunity to swim and explore. The crew were very professional, hospitable, fun and made every effort to ensure we were safe and comfortable at all times and the lunch was served fresh and really hit the spot. When we return to Crete we will definitely consider another voyage.

This was a great trip where you get to see and experience lots of Crete. All the staff were excellent, especially Nectarios who was a wonderful and informative guide. We loved the cave of Zeus and the donkeys and Knossos. The lunch is amazing- there is limited choice for vegetarians but what we had was very tasty and made with fresh vegetables.

One thing to note is that the money paid when booking is only to cover the coach- there are further charges which are made clear when booking but make sure you have cash ready.

All the praise you read about Alex and the tour is more than deserved. I was alone with Alex, when I booked off-season in January (2023). First of all, Alex is one of the most chill, relaxed, and least stressful guy you will ever get to know. In case you reach this tour in a stressed state, be sure to calm down while just having Alex as company.

Then, there is something to know that is difficult to communicate without feeling you can't or shouldn't take the tour, because it may sound strange at first: The bikes Alex gives you are even easier to ride on than the bikes you are used to, because you don't even have to use any pedals! They are special bikes that work fully electrically, just by using the handlebar area. I hardly knew such bikes exist, but within seconds I learned to love them. Just riding this bike itself already made this tour fun for me!

And maybe, maybe, if you are lucky and Alex has the time in his schedule and you are normal to friendly people, he will take you to his friends and give you one of the best times of your life. I myself was lucky enough to meet Alex within the first hours of my stay in Iraklio (not even having checked in to my apartment yet), and had the best start of my vacation one can dream of (including a lot of, no, many lots of Raki... ;)).

I recommend this tour especially for the beginning of your stay in Iraklio, as you get a representative idea of what this beautiful town has to offer, so you can choose according to your taste and desires. Alex is booked up with all the information you need to know, especially in historic terms (without exaggerating), and gives you all the time you need to look at things you are interested in a relaxed way.

Alex with his great personality, super-fun bikes, and a representative overview of Iraklio - what more can you want?

    Thank you so much, Alex!

Not worth the money. The original driver did not turn up, but handed over to another driver who did not speak much English. He was a lovely man but not a guide. The listing is very clear that this is just a taxi service and there is no guiding, but what isn’t mentioned is that Knossos Palace is about 15 minutes out of Heraklion by taxi, not out in the countryside as I supposed. So I could’ve just got my own taxi there and back to the museum and walked to the fortress for a lot less money.
