History and geology happening in our time. The audio tour provided a ton of information on the Eldheimar eruption and the science of volcanoes.

If you want to know your entrance fee goes to do good work with beluga whales then you should definitely visit.
Right now, Nov 2023, the two whales are in a tank and you can see them happily playing. They have tried to put them into an amazing looking, purpose built playground, in the Icelandic sea.

We visited after our Volcano and Puffin Tour and enjoyed a flight of their beers. The beers were tasty and staff friendly in helping us choose. It's a nice spot to get a beer if you've been exploring around town. If you like beer, this is a good spot to try!

We visited as part of a highlights tour of the Westman Islands. It was a very interesting site that showed how the Vikings lived around 1000.

Our tour guide brought us here and offered snacks and Icelandic drinks. It was super windy up top, so we didn't stay long. However, the views are incredible. Even driving up, I was transfixed. We stopped at a spot nearby where you can view puffins, and we were very fortunate to see a ton of them! I highly recommend...especially if you bring a binocular.

The journey to and from Vestmannaeyar is nice. Check-in and boarding is hassle free and the ferry itself is modern and nice. Not that there are a whole lot of alternatives, but anyway...

Adventurous hike up (our 12 year old turned back at the second ladder) so not for everyone. But fantastic views and scary enough for the teenagers and me.

Great museum that goes through the whole history of this island, including the events, people and nature. The museum was closed, but the staff was so nice to open the museum so that I could go in and look around at all of the terrific exhibits. No one else was in the museum, so I had lots of time to look around and see and study every single exhibit. It was amazingly well done and well maintained. The museum goes through the entire history of the island - volcanos, attacks from foreign lands, rebuilding, fishing, tourism, and a whole lot more! Photos and artifacts provide details and recount all of the history. Some of the audio interviews are amazing from survivors of the volcano. Don't miss the exhibits on the athletes with their medals and the national costumes of Iceland to wrap up the tour. The museum is easy to miss, as it is located on the second floor of the library. So if you think you are lost, you might just be in the right place after all!

You can walk around this area and get great views to all directions. Nice hiking area and a quiet place. We meet a couple of sheep’s on our walk.

To get there you drive Stórhöfðavegur and turn right at the sign Breiðabakki. You park at the parking lot and walk the gravel pathway. You follow it and it will lead you to this place. I love this place, one of my favourite on the island. You will see Tuff formations, often with big boulders in it, and on top is lava. The ocean has eroded the Tuff so you can see many beautiful formations. We saw seals in the ocean and birds flew around us.
