- Laura1 contributionMe and my partner were looking for something to do in Oxfordshire for the afternoon as we were on a little weekend away. We found this sanctuary on Google and decided to visit and I’m so glad we did!! The sanctuary is absolutely beautiful and I have never seen so many donkeys. They were all so happy and well cared for and I could see what an amazing place this was. We met lots of the donkeys and had a little look in the gift shop, the volunteer in the shop was so friendly and gave us some suggestions about what we could do for the rest of the afternoon!
Please visit this wonderful sanctuary and support the brilliant work they do! A perfect way to spend a few hours!❤️Written 17 November 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. When we arrived we were given a warm welcome (even being 15 mins late for our allotted time). The man told use to have a walk around while he finished off with some other guests and then he would come and find us. We were then given a private tour around the museum. He was very knowledgeable about the building to start off with. When we got to the cars you could tell that he has a real passion (in an engaging way rather than as a anorak) for the cars and their history. You would ask a question and he would know the answer and then give extra information as well. The museum is on a small scale but the cars that are there are rare and have interesting history. I wouldn’t travel 100s of miles but it is worth an hour or so trip.Written 2 December 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Caroline TFarnham, UK48 contributionsA small church but with exquisite detail in the pre-reformation brasses, stone carvings, alabaster effigy of Chaucer's granddaughter, beautiful detail carving in an enormous font cover. Apparently a local grandee stopped Henry VIII's thugs destroying what was in the church - lucky for us! Well worth visiting even though it is out of the way. There are pretty almshouses attached around whose courtyards you can wander. Visit the Village shop and tea rooms nearby for a good range of cakes with your tea/coffee.Written 30 October 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Stuart BCarshalton, UK507 contributionsGreat Gardens, well maintained. The Castle ruins are in need of some love and attention, but worth a visit.Written 29 April 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- JofgnDidcot, UK9 contributionsWe arrived to a very enthusiastic welcome despite the rain. Normally a one hour group tour we had Zoe all to ourselves.
A short walk around the vines with comnentary from Zoe. She's super knowledgeable, not only about wine making but the history of it and how it came to be. The facts about the Geology of the land was fascinating.
We then did some wine tasting in the fermenting/crushing/labelling/shop shed (the magic happens in one big room). The dogs Roger Hiro and Charlie were very friendly and added to the warm homely experience. We were very happy with our visit.Written 30 July 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Janet TShrewsbury, UK482 contributionsMy daughter and I called in here after a walk up the Thames Path to Wallingford. It was bright and inviting and there were lots of different displays to browse. I would definitely call in again if I was in the area.Written 21 June 2017This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - sabatinitennisLondon, UK3,642 contributionsThis town centre church has recently had the pews taken out, but it is worth a visit to see the windows, use of space and to make use of the coffee morning that is on Friday and a couple of others days.Written 14 March 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - HowloBuckingham, UK9,420 contributionsThe Spire attracted me to this church, but I was shocked to find it does not function as a church anymore. - HowloBuckingham, UK9,420 contributionsA truly lovely church, a great asset to this fine market town. Very well kept both inside and out. So nice to find it open to the public, too enjoy.Written 4 October 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - cherriesfan_9Cheltenham, UK6,776 contributionsVibrant market area since Saxon times in this small but charming Oxfordshire town, situated on the River Thames midway between Reading and Oxford.
The market place is quite compact compared to others, but allows for three distinctive markets (on separate days),; the Charter Market is the oldest, whilst the Independent Market is for produce, and finally there is a Local Producer market.
The setting is quaint with traffic moving through the "square" and buses parked down one side. The buildings reflect the age of the town mostly C18th with some having much older facades, and with the local stone paving flagstones and a quite bizarre memorial (drinking fountain ?) it is a fine place to visit.Written 25 August 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. With many restorations since the C12th, the first bridge was a series of drawbridges but many enlargements since and even rebuilds (in 1809).
Today there is some heavy traffic, although there are viewing vantage points on the northern side of the bridge.
As you would expect some great rural views.Written 24 August 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
