One of the most visited places in Bangkok and definitely for you not to miss. It was my favorite spot during my trip to the city. It’s a cultural treasure and a must see. Most visitors queue to admire the awe-inspiring Reclining Buddha, a magnificent 46-meter-long golden statue located in one of the temples. However, my personal highlight was wandering through the main yard. The intricate mosaics, charming garden spots with statues and green plants made the atmosphere vibrant and peaceful. The temple complex features stunning architecture that feels almost surreal once you step into the yard. Make sure you arrive early so you can avoid the crowds. The entrance is 300 Baht and it must be paid cash. A visit can be combined with a visit to the Grand Palace – as the places are located very close to each other.

Put on your walking shoes (and carry a rain poncho for the unexpected rain) as you walk to the entrance of the famous Angkor Wat (“Tomb Raiders” was filmed here). Dress conservatively since this is a temple that is still used by the Buddhist monks. Even if you can’t walk the uneven steps to the top floor, walking the path to the entrance is beautiful! The long walk to the entrance is well preserved and worth stopping to observe.
When you are in Siem Reap Cambodia this is a must stop!

Fushimi Inari Shrine was absolutely enchanting. Walking through the endless rows of vibrant red torii gates felt like stepping into another world. The trail up the mountain offered stunning views of Kyoto and a sense of peaceful solitude despite its popularity. Each stop along the way revealed small shrines and stone foxes, adding to the spiritual charm. A truly unforgettable cultural and natural experience.

Day 6-The final lap-Jiankou to Mutianyu.
Today was the final day of the walk. Once again, we were up at dawn, heading towards the Great Wall of Mutianyu. Standing on the Great Wall, I was overwhelmed by what I had seen. Ahead of it, the Great Wall curved for miles and miles through the mountains, and it was hard to believe that we had been on those winding mountains for almost six days.
We had to descend everything we had climbed, as I came to understand why tourists are not allowed in the Janikou wall. We were now departing the most dangerous part of the wall in the direction of Mutianya.
The entire hike required much effort from my now wobbly legs and knees. Every so often, we came across a few tourists complaining that the tour they had booked was a day tour involving 2 or 3 hours of hiking, and they explained about having to climb stairs and more stairs. I wanted to remind them that we had been a part of this terrain for 6 days, and at times, clinging to a few stairs was a blessing than trying to navigate those sliding rocks and slippery stones. Since we had no interest in taking the cable car to Mutianyu, it meant another two hours of hiking until we reached the village. I could see the town in the foreground, and I turned back and took one long look at the Great Wall of China. My next mission was, where could I buy a bottle of water, or better, a bottle of beer?
PS: I have had a lot of inquiries about this hike, including the cost, the food, the dwelling, the fitness level, etc. If you are interested, I can detail the cost when the body and brain are in a functioning mood.
PS: As a matter of interest, the wall at Bandalng attracted 60,000 visitors on a single day, and Mutianya had a record 24 thousand on a single day!
Compare this with the trek we just completed. During the entire six days, we may have encountered no more than 200 people, and most of those we met were on a two-hour tour of Mutianya

Chatuchak Market is NOT for the faint of heart! We braved the bustling crowds and vibrant (aka HOT) atmosphere for some serious bargain hunting. We're talking dirt cheap souvenirs and clothes, but be prepared to haggle.

We loved getting lost in the maze of streets, dodging scooters and slurping down delicious pho. The art scene is definitely vibrant - we stumbled upon some cool galleries tucked away down tiny alleys. The lakes offer a bit of serenity amidst the chaos, and the whole area has a charming, slightly chaotic atmosphere. It's not always relaxing, but it's definitely an experience!

Our tour was a speedboat trip with the Les Rives(LR) company.
They do pick ups in Quan(district) 1, which takes you to the drop off area at Ben Dach Dang.
We chose to walk as we were just over the road. The representatives of LR are sat just to the right of the rivertaxi security guard.
    We cast off at 1120.
Quien was our guide for the day, assisted by the boat pilot and another LR representative.
We were offered various fruits and water for the journey of just under 1 and half hours.
On arriving at Cu Chi tunnels we went for lunch.
After lunch we toured the tunnels and various other points of interest.
Venturing through the tunnel complex is not difficult or claustrophobic in my opinion, you are led by a guide with torch.
There is also an opportunity to attend the live firing range. AK47 or M16.
Bullets are priced at 60000VND each. I took a full 30 round magazine, but stoppages interrupted my experience, so I was giving another full mag.
The tunnel tour finishes with tapioca and video.
On the trip back to Ho Chi Minh City again we were offered fruit water and Coke Cola.
Our timescale of the late morning departure meant we more or less had the site to ourselves.
The speedboat up the River Saigon was a great experience.
