The ancient walls and ornate gates transported us to imperial Vietnam. Despite war damage, the restored areas are stunning. Tip: arrive early to beat both crowds and heat. We spent 3 magical hours wandering through peaceful courtyards and admiring the intricate architecture. The Purple Forbidden City was our favorite spot. Absolutely worth the visit!

The challenging trails led us to stunning waterfalls and hidden viewpoints. Despite the leeches (pack salt, folks!), the panoramic views from the summit made every step worthwhile. Spotted rare birds and even cheekier monkeys. Pro tip: bring raincoats and good hiking shoes - weather changes faster than our travel plans!

It is more to feel than to see. Situated by the side of the perfume river. It is named after a celestial lady who professed it. It once served as a Buddhist gathering to protest against the ban on the buddhists. It became the unofficial symbol of the city. We can see a Austin car of a Buddhist monk who set himself ablaze in protest against the ban on them.

The tranquil gardens and intricate architecture provided a perfect backdrop for our romantic stroll. We marveled at the rich history and the beautiful landscapes that surrounded us. Each corner held a story, and we felt a deep connection to the past. This serene escape was a lovely way to bond and reflect on our journey together.

Hands down this is the best tomb in Hue. It’s more French style architecture which makes it really stand out, compared to other tombs which stand by traditional Vietnamese style architecture. The tomb itself defies words and you’re simply in awe. Definitely stop by here!

DO NOT MISS THIS SITE WHEN TRAVELLING TO HUE. There are many beautiful, old tombs and temples in Vietnam. It would be difficult, however, to imagine one looking more fantastic than this. Imposing and dark from the street, with a large iron gate in front of a long, steep, exterior stairway. After the initial stair climb, there is a landing/ plaza with many life-size sculptures of people and animals. Also there, an ornate pavilion, multiple spires, 5 claw sculpture dragons, more gates, and more stairs... All the stair climbing is worth it once you see the interior of the tomb at the very top.
Eye- popping, detailed, ceramic tiles in all shapes colors and sizes are utterly amazing. It seems no surface was left un- decorated. It is easy to see why the construction took 11 years- 5 years AFTER the death of the Emperor. So happy the tour itinerary included this stop! Able to learn much about this important historical figure, all that he did for Hue and Vietnam. Also happy weather was dry to help manage slippery steps and fully enjoy outdoor areas and sculptures.

There are a lot of dragon boats all trying to sell you tours along the riverfront. Do your homework to avoid being ripped off. A really nice walkway along the riverfront with eateries. Very nice at night when the bridge is all lit up and changes colours. Some lovely parks too to get a break from the noise of Hue but the sales people harass you.

The main Royal Palace of Nguyen dynasty who ruled Vietnam 1802-1945 is currently under renovation. However, there're several other smaller palaces within the Imperial City complex (built according to Beijing's forbidden city complex) you can visit.
All of them are within the Citadel encircled by a moat and worth your 2 hours of time.

Here is the main site for my trip to Vietnam in 2024.
I had been forgetting about mindfulness practice due to my messed up daily life, so decided to visit this pagoda to do mindfulness walking.

From this visit and this circumstance, I could understand more about what Thích Nhất Hạnh had touched us.

Here brought me to sit and calm down.
    Very peaceful place.

This is a pretty wooden bridge built by a local woman. Carvings on the pillars are pretty. It’s in use by locals. There were several old people sitting, resting and selling souvenirs on the bridge.
This bridge is located outside of Hue central area so you need to arrange a ride to come here. We asked a tour guide to stop by here in an original tour which didn’t include here. Of course we paid extra.
