#1 of 125 Sights & Landmarks in Province of Salamanca
Salamanca exceeded my expectations with a compact centre, easy to explore on foot and plenty of surprises, either in the form of photogenic corners or spectacular views of the principal religious sites.
Traveling across Spain this is a great place to stop and visit the historical sites shops cafes and bars as it is a university town lots of great bars and restaurants

The belfry open area itself with it's magnificent bells all around is amazing: the views over the wonderful city of Salamanca both from here and the rooftop areas are unsurpassed.
It provides the most stunning view of this magnificent city and a close up of the brilliant steeples of both the old Gothic limestone church and the new one on which it was built.
Plaza Mayor Salamanca

Fabulous atmosphere- we enjoyed light tapas with a view of the plaza and enjoyed the atmosphere, energy, ambience and architecture of the square both nights in Salamanca.
Located roughly 7-8 "blocks" from the train station, a 14 Euro cab ride can get you to the Plaza Mayor from which you can start your personal walking tour of the local sites.

This is a short distance from all the other main sites but this was one of our favorites.
Very interesting historical site.

It was truly a pleasure to explore the cathedral this way, rather than entering from the ground level and looking around (which I'm sure is also nice, it's a beautiful place, but the view from above is amazing).
It is next to the cathedral and part of that tour gets you inside the upper part of the old cathedral where great views can be seen both of the skyline of Salamanca and the interior of the church.

You have the opportunity to walk around the battlements and upper balconies of the New Cathedral with wonderful views across the city.
The central crossing begins gothic and transends into a fabulous baroque lantern and dome, the skyline landmark of Salamanca.

Walk around the village to soak in the atmosphere, it is utterly charming and has breathtaking views of snow capped mountains behind the village.

The sites of the sieges in 1810 (when captured by the French) and 1812 (when taken by an allied army under Wellington) are all clearly marked and easily found (e.g, the "Great Breach" of 1812.)
Except for a few metres by the Parador hotel you can walk round whole section of walls and look into the city from various points or simply admire the landscape views stretching far into the distance (the views di...

I went up the Scala Coeli with my family, and the views were wonderful- we were the only people visiting at the time so it was wonderfully quiet but the views were so stunning.
A memorable view during a memorable visit to a beautiful city
Escuelas Menores Salamanca
#12 of 125 Sights & Landmarks in Province of Salamanca
The plaza itself is a nice, quiet, shady spot, with some views to the cathedral.
#13 of 125 Sights & Landmarks in Province of Salamanca
The views of the mountains and valleys are pretty, the architecture is quite interesting, but it is the portraits on its houses that give it such an unusual feel.
#14 of 125 Sights & Landmarks in Province of Salamanca
A stunning drive to the top of the mountain to enjoy superb views over the countryside and visit the santuario and monastery at the top.
Amazing views, beautiful natural environment, a place of tranquility and peace.

Well preserved, clean and astonish view of the Tomes’ river and the Cathedral.
You've toured the cathedrals, perhaps other sights nearby.

Very quaint with nice views and a well kept garden.
This was one of the most memorable sights in Salamanca.

Sites associated with the attacks - the ancient bridge, the "great" breach of 1810 and 1812 and the "lesser" breach of 1812 are easy to find and there are plaques commemorating various anniversaries of the fightin...
... the complete ramparts (except for a few meters where the Parador occupies a corner section) was certainly a highlight of my visit - fortunately it was a bright/clear day so the far reaching views were excellent.

The University of Salamanca is a beautiful building - wonderful architecture which is a joy to view.
The old library is an amazing site but one can only get inside to see it with special permission or as a visiting scholar.

This is a quick stop - view the exterior, read a bit on the history, walk around the the interior courtyard - and be in your way in 10 minutes, with a smile on your face.
This is a beautiful historic building, one of many in Salamanca which is a Unesco World Heritage site.

This beautiful, solemn structure with two symmetrical towers is literally flying over over the golden city of Salamanca - stop by on the way to the Plaza Mayor and climb the Scala Coeli for the views.
