We cycled from Alice Springs on a great car free trail 7km to the Desert Park. We spent 5 hours there! It was brilliant. Great for families. Dont miss the bird presentation!!
This experience was amazing and probably our favourite of the holiday. We loved getting to see the kangeroos in a more natural environment than the zoo and learning about them. The staff were amazing and so invested in their work. Seeing the baby kangeroos was the cherry on top - especially knowing they will likely be released back into the wild when older. What a wonderful place
The trail is sometimes challenging, but so worth it. An incredible experience in the Australian semi-arid bush with wonderful views at every turn. The scenery changes so much along the length of the West McDonald Ranges, which was unexpected and kept me thinking it couldn't get any better - but it did! Orminston Pound was my favourite spot - definitely do the Pound Walk as a side trip to the Larapinta. Mount Sonder for sunrise was amazing too!
We visited the Telegraph Station at Alice Springs, there are nine structures here all in very good condition. The station has been set up well as a tourist destination and you enter the station beside a cafe/souvenir shop. We had a good look around Robb likes to read the boards and then pass the information on to me. We lucked out today because the Morse Code club spends a week here each year and it happened to be this week, we were fortunate enough to see a demonstration on sending messages through morse code and one of the club members gave us a brief but interesting history or this form of messaging through the years. There are some beautiful walks around here which seem to be very popular with the locals.
Yes i was there for 3 nights, went to Flying Dr. museum one day next day took the walk up ANZAC hill. rest of time looked around Alice Springs, Had a great time. I am 81 and i always wanted to go to Alice since i was a 10 year old living in England at the time where i was born.so at 81 I finally got to go to OZ and visit Family there.
This was a bit of a pleasant surprise to us and we enjoyed walking around the many exhibits they had. We joined in with the demonstration at 11.00am and found the zoo keeper to have lots of knowledge about her subject and we had the chance to hold some of the reptiles or pat them as they passed us by. We learnt a lot taking part in this demonstration.
We visited here the day after ANZAC Day. The views from up here over Alice Springs are outstanding and it was lovely to see so many wreaths around the cenotaph.
Comprehensive selection of aboriginal art with an attached gift shop with an excellent array of gifts! Karl and the staff are so helpful and knowledgeable and will ship your purchase anywhere in Australia.
The sheer size and scope of this place is amazing. Really interesting, we spent 3 hours there. They also have a campground out the back with powered sites so we stayed there overnight. Government funding has ceased so they're relying mostly on volunteers to keep it going. Road transport is entwined in the history and DNA of Alice Springs so it would be a shame if this place had to close down.
Got to carpark around 9am. Light on west face great. Water in pool. Not many people. Then went for 2 hour hike up to Hat Hill saddle. Lunched at the shady picnic area. Free gas bbq’s available. Did the 15 minute walk to the old Ghost Gum by the entrance station. Finished up around 1:30
Spectacular to see Peaceful Easy to access from carpark Hubby and kids had a dip - freezing but refreshing Very good undercover picnic areas, bbq facilities
We hired a 4wd on two occasions via Emily at the Visitors Centre. I made several changes and at all times Emily was extremely helpful. It was certainly easier than shopping arund myself and l received good value deals.
The outback scenery is ruggedly lovely. You can do some easy-to-moderate hiking. When we were there the cafe wasn't open, and we didn't see any rock wallabies (though we save "evidence" of them), however, a chance to explore the outback when you're in Alice Springs is, in my opinion, a must do.
