WOW, what fantastic views driving up to the crater, very surreal being above the clouds.

If you are coming for the sunset, don't forget to either have a jumper or a warm coat, otherwise you will be cold.

We forgot, but luckily someone loaned us a jumper.

Very surprised that there are plants growing on the crater.

The place was very crowded, everyone wanting to see the sunset. For some reason, I expected more, but no matter, it was worth the wait.

I would definitely recommend a visit, whether to see the sunset, sunrise or during the day.

Each was amazing, numerous turtle sightings. Easy to get in and out. Not many people, will want to take water and some food.

Our tour guide, Kennedy, was great! She was very knowledgeable and passionate about pineapples! I learned so much about the planting and growing of pineapples, as well as how to choose a good pineapple. I also sadly learned that the pineapples we get on the mainland are from the Philippines and Costa Rica, not Hawaii. When we were flying from Maui to Kauai we were told at the airport that the pineapples we were given at the tour counted as one piece of luggage so we had to scramble and stuff them into our carryon luggage. We should have been told that on the tour. Mahalo.

Fun, wet, and beautiful!! Download the “Shaka Maui” app and let them give you a gps guided tour. The ride was outstanding but even better with our personal tour guide.

We started at 8:30 at Pa’ia and made it just beyond Hana by 2:30. It’s a Long trip so plan for a 10-12 hour day.

My husband and I drove up Haleakala ourselves. It was a bit nerve wracking for my husband as he is scared of heights but once he got to the top he said it was all worth it.
We were lucky it was a warm day and we're just in tshirts and shorts but as we went to leave a thick cloud cane over.
Also be aware that because of the altitude yoh may find hiking harder than normal

This beach was best we found for small waves for children and older folks. You need to go to the area in front of Sea House restaurant for the calmest waves. There is beach access from the street then walk right toward the Sea House restaurant.

So cool to see the turtles and watch the big waves, surfers, kite boarders and windsurfing. The park is well equipped with washrooms, and just be patient and parking will be available. AND, the turtles lounge on the beach, BUT please respect them, they are so chill and need their space, like 15ft minimum or we won’t get to all enjoy them. (The turtles once dry blend right into the lava rock, so you have to look closely)

They had a train that had a ramp and easily opened and we were able to get my son on with no problems.
I wish they would have spent more time talking about the various plants. I felt like we passed a bunch and we didn’t know what they were.
