We book a 4 hour tour from Samui German Tour at fisherman’s wharf for 8000 baht. We have whole long tail boat to ourselves, 4 family and 8 adults and 8 kids. Very interesting trip and hassle free. Kids love it!

Stayed for a night in one of the bungalows. During the day when packed with tourists from the boats this is probably not for me, just too busy.

At 5pm when everyone left and my family of 4 were the only tourists left it was paradise. Hiked to the viewpoint watching the monkeys in the trees as we went and watched sunset.

Morning up at 6am for sunrise and to see the hornbills in the trees by the beach and monkeys (including baby) a few steps up the viewpoint trail.

Hiked to the cave- that was more tricky but fine in water shoes with good soles for an adult. I would not advise for kids. The cave was wonderful, and I was there alone (left kids and wife on the beach).

The snorkelling was not great as the water was too cloudy given time of year but the kids enjoyed it and the beach was swept each day (my kids enjoyed helping collect the plastic with them) with the island spotless.

I would certainly recommend staying in the bungalows.. but only if a) you like peace and quiet and b) you don't mind basic. They were fine for us but only electric fans (no Aircon); electric only on for certain hours so some of those night hours nothing to cool you, and we had a couple of geckos and a mouse as company in the room. Not an issue for us, some maybe won't enjoy!

The staff in the visitor centre and working there were almost all wonderful (one exception who was not hugely polite but I won't comment further).

On arrival my boy befriended the gardener outside whom immediately cut down 4 coconuts, opened them up and gave them to us to drink.

    Wonderful time.

We visited this island to have a look around, and it was very quiet and peaceful.
Not too much on the actual island, and you need to be reasonably fit as the inclines are very steep in places.
We found the signs to different locations a little misleading, as the sign for the ‘bat cave’ sent us down the track but could not find it.
The buddha on the west side was good to see, but did not too much time to see much else.
Glad we went to Koh Taen, but next time will go some other island

we were picked up by the tour operator from our hotel and transferred to the start point of the tour. the boat was comfortable and very dry from sea spray. there was plenty of cold water on hand through out the trip. powered by three outboards, the boat skimmed across the top of the glassy water with ease.the crew were professional and safety was paramount.
the national park was a delight with its natural beauty, surrounded by crystal clear water, with fish swimming around.
the only negative was the amount of plastic floating in the water. well worth visiting....thank you...
