- happybean_10Blyth, UK62 contributionsThe waterfall itself was beautiful bur very crowded. My main concern was for the 3 elephants at the entrance. They were chained up by the legs, swaying, one obviously had an eye infection as both eyes were weeping. They were standing in deep mud with bits of concrete in it
After visiting the elephant sanctuary in Chuang Mai and seeing how well health and happy the elephants were then to see these 3 poor creatures broke me. Is there nothing that can be done. Its animal cruelty at uts worstWritten 5 August 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - willfulnegligenceKitchener, Ontario, Canada12 contributionsA lovely place that is easy to find on any map, but hopefully is not overrun. If you DO choose to visit, respect your surrounds. Pick up some garbage and leave the place nicer than when you arrived.
They should limit the number of visitors before it's too late.Written 14 July 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The final road was really steep and we weren't sure if we would get out. Coming back down the mountain was a bit hairy too as there are some steep sections so make sure you have good brakes. Walking the final part was a good idea but a solid walk back to the car up the very steep.
Once we were there it was a short walk to the falls. There were 2 sections we accessed and you could walk through the water and stand under the falls. Not really anywhere big enough to swim but you could cool down. There had been recent rain so the water was running well and made it worthwhile.Written 2 January 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Gareth S1 contributionMy wife and I visited the falls with our 2 year old daughter. We are vehemently against animal cruelty (vegan family) so we did not want to have to support one of the animal parks in order to see a waterfall. The reviews of the elephants and tigers in the animal parks was sad to read.
This waterfall is on the public road making it easy to get to. It is by no means the most impressive falls (more like a big boulder down which water cascades on a series of small pools but it is pretty and tranquil. We played in the rock pools with my daughter for a few hours. The rocks do get slippery though and we saw another tourist land on his back in a rock pool while trying to make his way across the boulders which looked rather painful.
Worth a quick 30 min visit if in the vicinity otherwise save it for another day.Written 20 July 2016This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. I was still physically scarred by my visit to Nauamg Waterfall number 2, but pulled into the car park and saw a sign that said 250m walk to the waterfall. After the arduous walk to Waterfall Number 2, I thought this would be quick. It was, but the waterfall was very underwhelming because there wasn't much water when I was there. When I walked back to the top I saw a sign saying 100m to a Natural Pool. It was a steep 100m (ish) descent, but there is a pleasant waterhole to splash about in. The water is cool - not cold and very refreshing. Which is good because it is a steep short walk out and you are sweating at the top again. I agree with other contributors that you wouldn't go out of your way, but if you are passing by - skip the waterfall, but try the natural pool.Written 24 October 2017This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - tizchrisclarkDoha, Qatar144 contributionsWe stopped off here traveling across the island. There are some waterfalls further down but this is by far the nicest, steep slope down but a relatively short walk in. Stunning waterfall !!Written 21 December 2016This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- wldtravelsflorida235 contributionsGiven a choice, we will try to hike to a natural landmark in any city we visit. The maps made it look like the closest waterfall was double the actual distance. The Skyhawk Adventure zip line is next to the waterfall, so that can help guide you too.
Getting to the waterfall is easy because there are signs for both the zip line and waterfall both in town and along the way. The ship tenders arrive at the pier. At the end of the pier, the street across the road from the pier exit (it looks almost like the pier turns into that road) has lots of shops. Go down this street for 2 short blocks, then turn left at the 2nd street. As you wander down this street, within 2-3 blocks you will see the sign to the waterfall (Song Rua Waterfall, aka Zong Raue Waterfall) and zip line adventure on the right. The sign has an arrow that points up the road, and the waterfall is at the end of the road. There are other signs along the way, but one of those signs was off-kilter and could be confusing. Just remember, the waterfall is STRAIGHT up the road approximately 4km. I will try to attach pictures of the street sign and waterfall sign.
The waterfall itself is nice, but it wont rock your world if you are looking for something truly unique. It was running steadily when we were there, with several different levels/areas, but we don't know if that is the case year round. The hike fulfilled our goal which was to get out and walk to a nature spot.
A few extra notes -
1) Ko Samui is very hot and humid. Take water and expect to be very warm.
2) you will encounter several dogs along the way, they might bark or come out to the road, but if you ignore them, they will generally go away
3) there are other waterfalls (Hin Lad, or Na Muang for example) further south of town that are farther away but it is unclear how much farther away they are. Next time we will try to go to those, and see a couple of temples along the way, but we don’t know how far away those are at this point.
Other info about Ko Samui – options at the pier when you get off the tender boat
1) There were LOTS of tour operators available at the pier with various tours around the island, so finding a taxi or tour at the pier is easy. Many people spoke English well enough to make this an easy and pleasant place to visit.
2) There is currently NOT a tourist information office for visitors at the pier that we could find, so we could not get a map or ask questions about our visit
3) There were several currency exchange offices near the pier. The restaurants took other currency but most of the market shops didn’t. There was a reasonable exchange window in the middle of the market shopping area across from the pier at the time of this review. They exchanged multiple currencies for Baht.
4) Most of the Ko Samui people were very helpful and willing to answer questions if you needed anything. Many of them spoke English.Written 3 March 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
