Exploring Ang Thong National Marine Park in Koh Samui was a nature lover’s dream come true, offering pristine beaches, crystal-clear waters, and lush tropical landscapes.

The park’s collection of islands provided endless opportunities for snorkeling, kayaking, and hiking. Witnessing the stunning Emerald Lake at Mae Ko Island and the vibrant coral reefs teeming with marine life was a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

The knowledgeable guides and their commitment to preserving the park’s natural beauty added depth to the adventure. Ang Thong National Marine Park’s dedication to conservation and eco-friendly practices was evident throughout.

Visiting this marine park is a must for anyone seeking to immerse themselves in the natural wonders of Koh Samui.

Huge Buddha on site and was visible as we were driving towards it. Ample parking outside the temple and there were lots of souvenir shops and stalls serving food around the temple.

The Big Buddha is located up a hill so you would need to climb a flight of stairs (probably a quarter of the steps compared to the Big Buddha at Lanma Island in Hong Kong) .

The temple compound around the Big Buddha provided excellent views around the bay.

    This was the Boput centre.

I am a life long elephant lover and can’t tell you enough how much I absolutely loved this experience.

To be able to be so close to these beautiful animals was a dream come true. The whole set up is vey well done, you are told how to feed and interact with the elephants behind a safety bar initially, some are half blind and it was important to always stand where they could see you. Gradually you are then introduced to the elephants in small groups. They aren’t restrained , but their keepers are close by. There are 7 female elephants that live here aged between 55 and 70 years old, all were previously in the logging and/or the tourist riding industry. Some of the stories of mistreatment are hard to hear.

To see the elephants so clearly happy and well looked after was a joy. To touch and feed the elephants was magical, we loved every minute and learnt lots about the elephants previous lives. No bathing or trunk hugging the elephants.

The vegetarian buffet lunch was also very good and you are provided with free bottled water, tea, coffee and biscuits.

I spend about 6 weeks in Koh Samui every year and stay in an area that is fairly close to the beautiful Wat Plai Laem, so I visit the temple almost every day. This Wat area has three large temples, all situated on three different walkways over the water. There are no entrance fees. There are also other temple buildings on the land surrounding the entire complex. Sometimes a monk is sitting in an area close to the Laughing Buddha and he will give you a blessing in return for a small donation. Often, the Monk will wrap a woven bracelet around your left wrist at the end of the blessing. There are two areas where you can buy a small bucket of fish food for 10 Baht. There are a LOT of HUGE catfish and turtles swimming in the waters around the temples and it is fascinating to feed them. There are some tables and chairs situated in some shade under some trees that can be a nice place to get out of the sun. You must be sure that your shoulders are covered while visiting the temples (and the Monk). There is an area near the laughing Buddha where you can borrow a cover up in case you don't have one with you. There is usually someone selling some fruit and some basic food on a small cart near the area where the seating is. Well worth the visit.
It is also very close to the Big Buddha Temple so be sure to visit both temples! Wat Plai Laem in not commercialized so there are no shops to buy souvenirs where as at the Big Buddha Temple, there are many shops and a few food places. Wat Plai Laem is not as crowded as the Big Buddha Temple.

Lovely Sandy beach to get between your toes! No boats and therefore the sea is beautiful to swim in! Loads of places to eat and drink on the beach! Heaven on earth

Mid April visit so it was not too busy. Lovely sand and warm water. Sea is pretty safe on calm days as it’s gently shelving. However there are warnings about rip tides

Fairly clean but this is not helped by the many jet skis which should be banned

Up in the quiet rainforest hills, the secret garden is a must visit. Stunning traditional Thai statues, little grottos. Lots if stairs and wonky steps to clamber over.

I walked almost the whole distance from one end of the beach to the other, making several stops for a swim.
Beautiful and clean beach, not busy at all. Very relaxing and with possibilities to find a shadow under a coconut tree.

Great beach for those based further down from Chaweng in Chaweng Noi.

Lovely sand and great beach bars / restaurants. Other beaches were not exactly packed when we were here but Chaweng Noi was particularly quiet.

Better than Lamai beach by far although not as much going on. If you like the quieter feel (and no driving baselines you get on other beaches) this may be the one for you.

Facing the see, very pretty. Facing the land, can be a little ‘messy’ and ‘concretey’ for Euro tastes. Same most places on Koh Samui though.

(Bit of a trek from Chaweng beach along the road without pavement, and not much to gain from doing so, so wouldn’t bother if you aren’t in Chaweng Noi to begin with.)

As a final curtain in my day trip, made sure I’d stop by a beach in the afternoon so I could relax and enjoy the sun and water. This beach was one I specifically checked on this website to determine which beach may be the best to enjoy. It did not disappoint!

Free entry and since I was there in December, it wasn’t too hot, but still fully enjoyable. The beach is located just before all these bungalows set right near the shore and they were quite cool and I imagine, quite nice to stay in of you want to be right on the beachfront!

Anyways, you can actually go out quite far and the water doesn’t get deep. Not a lot of people there, and it was the perfect place to just relax, enjoy, and burn off a nice afternoon after what was already a beautiful day trip to different sites around the island!

    Calm, peaceful and quiet beach.
Although restaurants and bars are along the beach. The water is like a bath, with fish to see if snorkeling.
It seemed an ideal location for families.
It is very beautiful. And if you get up early enough, you can watch the sunrise

We book a 4 hour tour from Samui German Tour at fisherman’s wharf for 8000 baht. We have whole long tail boat to ourselves, 4 family and 8 adults and 8 kids. Very interesting trip and hassle free. Kids love it!

The fish spa was fun to do. To get to the view point, the walk up was easy. Don’t be taken in by the counter lady who says it’s ‘v hard’ to convince you to pay for the unnecessary cable fees. Unless you have disabilities or have general walking difficulties, the walk up is easy and fuss free. The view is average and the cafe food is so so. But it’s still worth a short visit.
