It's the most interesting part of Yerevan. It's a pretty long walk from opera - down town - to Mother Armenia statue via a chain bridge, a chain stair and victory Park...

Ok it's Yerevan's main and central square but there are not many things to do or see around... Especially during winter when the fountains are not operating.

Very Impressive building but inside there are not many things to see... Unless you are specialised in ancient transcripts... Entrance fee is so small so in case you don't have anything else to do is a nice walk...

This site is a must visit while in Yerevan. A memorial to the million+ who died in the Armenian genocide, perpetuated by Ottoman then Turkish forces after WWI. A somber site indeed.

The Armenian Genocide Museum is ipso facto not a "pleasant" visit. It is a powerful, sobering experience to see the horrors that were inflicted on a whole population. Especially the photos of children will haunt you forever. It is scary to see how quickly this thin layer of civilization can get eroded under the right circumstances.
I found the museum a little confusing because there are so many events : I think it is critical to read some history books before arriving and it certainly helps to have a guide with you.

As Armenian who is living in Yerevan, I visited Garni more than 100 times, but still while my visit I’m finding new things in this temple cause it’s truly magical, sadly our Armenian pre-Christian temples were destroyed because of Christianity, but this one survived because it was king’s sister’s favourite location.

Like other monasteries in Armenia, Khor Virap, or The Deep Dungeon, looks very much like some old feudal castle from a distance.
The place is very significant in Armenia's history due to the fact it is where you'll find the prison cell where Gregory The Illuminator was incarcerated for 13 years by Tiridates late 2nd century. You can actually descend down a metal ladder down into this cell some 60m underground ! Wear sturdy shoes.
On a clear day there are excellent views of Mt Ararat, across the border in Turkey. I found that the best views can be had if you exit the monastery grounds in the back and climb the slope towards the large cross. From there you can actually frame the whole monastery and combine shots of the cross with Mt Ararat.

I've spent 10 days cavorting all over Armenia, and in my opinion, Noravank is the absolute highlight of iconic attractions. Surrounded by dramatic brick-red cliffs, this complex of churches, chapel and khachkars stands head and shoulders above all other monasteries and churches. It is just mind-blowing beautiful and I cannot recommend it highly enough.
I was extremely lucky to visit during a brilliant day, with steel-blue sky, contrasting the splendid monuments against the red and blue. Perfect combination of important history and stunning nature. Allow yourself enough time, don't rush and enjoy !
