What travellers are saying
- ZimminaroundtheworldOkinawa Prefecture, Japan1,982 contributionsThe Chinggis Khan Statue Complex is well worth a day trip from Ulaanbaatar. This is the biggest equestrian statue in the world. From a distance it is impressive, I recommend going inside, walk to the top of the statue, and visit the museum. I learned a lot here.Written 26 October 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.

- Remus C. H. A.Singapore, Singapore687 contributionsKind of off roads trip. It was raining in mid June and the soils were slippery. Main focus is the to see the land of the wild horse. There are two main trails. Shorter trail about 36km. Longer trail 80km long. Animals such as Przewalski’s horse, marmot, deer and Ancient tombs and big rocks stone.Written 20 June 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - BlakeChicago, IL161 contributionsSukhbaatar Square, located in the heart of Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, is a must-visit destination for anyone exploring the city. The square is spacious, clean, and offers a sense of openness amidst the urban environment. It’s steeped in history and is surrounded by iconic landmarks such as the Parliament House, the State Opera and Ballet Theatre, and the National Museum of Mongolia.
The square features a central statue of Damdin Sukhbaatar, a revolutionary hero, making it an excellent spot for history enthusiasts. Additionally, the nearby restaurants, cafes, and shops provide plenty of options for dining and entertainment, ensuring there’s always something to do in the area.
Sukhbaatar Square also serves as a cultural hub, often hosting festivals, concerts, and public events, making it a lively place to visit. Whether you’re interested in history, architecture, or just people-watching, the square offers a vibrant experience that encapsulates the spirit of Ulaanbaatar.Written 9 December 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Cost was 20,000 MNT (less than $6), well worth it. Went on a Sunday and it was empty. Conveniently located across the Sükhbaatar Square, the central square in Ulaanbaatar.Written 23 November 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Ingeborg56Oslo, Norway2,398 contributionsIt is very similar to other monestaries we have visited in other countries, and one has to buy tickets to enter the monestary if you are not a buddhist. The buddha statue is really nice.Written 3 July 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- susantaylormdNew Orleans, LA102 contributionsThe mall is clean and very nice. The sushi restaurant is good. The cashmere shop is very nice also. - ZimminaroundtheworldOkinawa Prefecture, Japan1,982 contributionsVisiting the Gandantegchinlen Monastery in Ulaanbaatar is a must. For me, it was an easy walk from the main square, about 20-30 minutes. There is an entrance fee to go inside the main hall, but it's worth it. The Migjid Janraisig Sum statue is spectacular. This statue is huge, it reminds me of statues I've seen in Japan. You can walk around the statue. It's really impressive and highly recommended.Written 16 November 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- ZimminaroundtheworldOkinawa Prefecture, Japan1,982 contributionsI visited Zaisan Memorial while on a tour. It is further from the city center so a mode of transportation is a must. Once here, you have to walk up many stairs to get to the memorial. It's very soviet but I found it to be interesting because I've never seen anything quite like it. I like to keep an open mind. Outside of the memorial, it's a great place to get views of Ulaanbaatar. Maybe one of the best and most accessible viewing areas. It is an effort to get here but worth it.Written 16 November 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Alessandro FMilan, Italy32,947 contributionsThe complex consists in six temples originally occupied by the brother of the ruler the Eighth Bogd Jetsun Dampa Khan, Choijin Lama Luvsankhaidav, who was the state oracle.
The complex looks like an ancient temple but it was built in 1908.

Visiting the Bigd Khaan Palace was part of a tour I did and it was a great stop. The Winter Palace was not touristy, we practically had the site to ourselves. The buildings look ancient, but are newer then I expected. The western style home was interesting as well. The museum inside was well worth spending some time in. Overall, this is a must visit place.Written 1 November 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- polaris22Flagstaff, AZ161 contributionsExcellent, world class museum. This is the new National Museum and is the best, by far, of any in Mongolia.
