I started the walk from Jaffa Gate. On my four days of walking around the Old City, I saw only a few people going on the Ramparts Walk. Viewing the walls, I could see that there appears to be a number of walls built on top of walls. This is in part because with changes in the empires which ruled over Jerusalem, such as the Ottomans, Muslims, Christian crusaders, the Israelite chieftain Solomon, Romans, Byzantines, and Arabs. Many of the rulers modified the city walls and temples to their own liking. Thus, the walls have a lot of history behind them. From the upper walls, I had great views of the Old City on one side, and the new on the other.
