- Alex HPort St. Mary, UK1,319 contributionsThe entry ticket is cheap but make sure to bring your ID as you need it for signing in. This place is really magnificent and is a sight to behold. The architecture is brilliant and makes for some great photos. We ended up on a small intimate English speaking tour with a guide which was really great as we were able to find out more details about the basilica. Overall, hugely impressive and definitely worth a visit.Written 25 February 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - 70avaBeijing, China1,002 contributionsWe wanted to see those big crocs, especially handpicked for their viciousness on the orders of the late president. Those crocs have already eaten once the guy who was in charge of feeding them, and so the "ceremonial feeding", that occurred every day at 5 pm is not conducted any more.
According to the guy who is currently in charge - Jean-Luc phone number 08149458 - the crocs are fed only twice a month, and the rest of the time they live on the fish in the lake. However, if you contact him, he will arrange a private feeding session for you at the price of the chickens you wish to buy (he will himself fetch the chickens for you from the market). These sessions are conducted usually in the morning around 10 am. It is amazing to see dozens of crocs - males and females, coming out from the lake at the sound of the chicken. Though Jean-Luc said they can survive without food for a long time, they seemed to be very very hungry and fought for the served chicken. The place is wide and spacious, the lake/moat is huge and it almost seems as if they live in nature and not in captivity. A mesmerizing and somber sight,Written 24 February 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The park is open but apparently there aren't any animals left and haven't been since 2002,unfortunately.Written 1 October 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - AnaPrataDiasCostaLisbon, Portugal209 contributionsYet another very interesting example of the wonderful architecture that exists in this country! This foundation for the research and development of peace in Africa and the world was masterminded by late president Felix Houphouet-Boigny and designed by French architect Olivier-Clément Cacoub. It showcases beautiful interiors, with staircases and floors in marble (some were Portuguese and Italian), wood-paneled doors with metal details, and intricate chandeliers. The foundation houses two amphitheaters that are, like other buildings in the Ivory Coast, a time capsule of the '70s, as all decor is original (chairs, desks, wall panels, lights, microphones, etc); as well as several other meeting rooms, lounges, and a bookshop.Written 22 September 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - kris10annaAbidjan, Ivory Coast9 contributionsWe are Americans living in Côte d’Ivoire. Yamoussoukro is a must whenever we have business partners or friends visiting. We always reach out to Jean-Luc for our tours of the beautiful Basilica and other sites in and near this unique political capital. He is very knowledgeable, professional, and also funny! His English (and French) are great. The tour is included with the 2500 CFA basilica entry fee - but visitors grab him quickly so reserve with him on Trip Advisor. As a guideline, please consider a 10000 CFA tip for two people- he works hard and makes sure every guest learns the hidden secrets of this amazing site !!! You can also book him for a city tour - have fun!Written 17 February 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
