Beautiful views from this top floor with great drinks - it is hard to get in during the day but much easier at night. Drinks are very good and different.

It was drizzling slightly when we boarded the ferry for Pulau Ubin, The ferry ticket is $4 each way. After alighting, we walked past the wayang stage and stopped a while at the Butterfly Hill to admire the numerous species of butterflies as well as to learn the names of some of the flowering plants. After that we continued on along Jln Jelutong passing Pekan Quarry. Pekan Quarry is good for observing many bird species such as the hornbills, There are brown signpost which indicates the directions of famous landmarks on the island. We passed the Jelutong Bridge over the Sungei Jelutong. Soon we reached Merbah Hut and the start of the easy climb up Puaka Hill. There are two viewing points, both are easily reached. The higher viewpoint offers a fantastic view of Ubin Quarry.
After our descent we walked back along Jln Jelutong but turned at Jln Batu Ubin to visit a friend's farm. It was our first time seeing the Gac fruits which grow from the vine. We bought two fruits from them at $12 each. Bright yellow cosmos flowers can be seen here too. I also saw the asparagus plants.
It was a refreshing visit as I last visited Pulau Ubin more than two years ago. I intended to return and do more hiking to places which I have not been before such as the Ketam Quarry.

From Tampines East MRT station, the buses going to Changi Point are 9 or 59. I started riding my rented bicycle after Changi Point Bridge. The cycling path along Changi Park Beach is wide and shady with huge trees along it. There are also clean toilets with water coolers. The cycling path leads to Coastal Park Connector seamlessly. This is one of my favourite cycling route as it is scenic with majestic trees and the sea on either sides Lots of wild flowers can also be seen along the way. Turning left from the Coastal PC leads to Changi Bay PC. Changi Bay Point is about 1.4 km from Changi Beach Park. It is made up of an elevated boardwalk with seats and provides a charming view of the straits in front of them. A vending machine dispenses refreshments and is also stocked with supplies like sunscreen. It also provides shelter from the rain.

There are many kinds of flowering plants along the PC such as the colourful Lantana, Half-flowers bushes, and willowy grass.
Six hundred metres away from Changi Bay Point are more amenities such as rest rooms, a vending machine which stocks cold drinks and a top-down water dispenser for filling up one's bottle.
Here, another set of short boardwalks skirt the water and provide a minor distraction for cyclists and hikers along the PC. I returned my bicycle to the nearest bus stop before Changi Bay PC. From there bus 35 brought me to Tanah Merah MRT station.

One of Singapore’s oldest geological formations, the Gombak Norite, is named for the hill (Bukit Gombak) because this rock formation occurs most prominently here. Norite are iron and magnesium rich rocks formed from the cooling of magma deep in the Earth’s crust.
In the Bukit Gombok area lies the former Seng Chew Granite Quarry, sitting on a small hill about 500m north of Little Guilin. After its abandonment, rainwater filled it up and the former quarry became a lake.

The development of Bukit Batok Town Park saw one side of the once-heavily forested hill trimmed to become the contoured slopes today. A drainage system is also built to allow excessive water from Seng Chew Quarry, especially during the thunderstorms, to flow down along the slopes to the underground canals.

Seng Chew Quarry had existed from 1949 to 1960. The period between the fifties and seventies was indeed the golden era for local granite quarrying industry.

After alighting at Bukit Gombak MRT station, we exited in the direction of Bukit Gombak Sports Hall and followed the park connector towards Block 383 Bt Batok West Ave 5. At the first block of HDB flats, we turned right and walked up the gentle green slope.
At the top, we walked along the longkang which carries water from the quarry lake. Soon after we followed the drain to go further into the forest. There is a fallen tree trunk lying across the path. We went under it and soon reached a fence. There is an opening on the left side of the fence for closer look at the quarry lake. It is a very short trail to this lake. When we returned to the top of the slope, we decided to walk along it to the other end. This slope is actually an ideal spot for a picnic. There are many residents taking a walk here or doing yoga exercises.
We saw an opening into the forest and walked in. We saw a vegetable garden with many banana trees, chilli plants etc. Slightly ahead, we were rewarded with an aerial view of the quarry lake with an even better view. Although Seng Chew Quarry is not well known, it is surprisingly easy and convenient to reach it.
