Exploring this location offers a pleasant experience. However, the journey up the volcano poses some challenges due to the narrow, winding roads and the swift movement of local cars and buses. Upon reaching the summit, parking becomes a potential hassle due to limited space, resulting in a congested area that complicates turning around or finding a spot. The absence of an official structured traffic control system and visitor guidance adds to the chaos. If you manage to secure parking, the next step involves a walk to the entrance, where admission is free, and the ascent to the summit begins.

You don’t need a guide for this. Just your own transportation to the top.

was really pleasenly surpised by the Iglesia El Rosario - its got massive cultural significance and history, yet from the outside I genuinely thought it was an old abandoned building.

The multicoloured glass windows are disguised behing concrete grouting from the outside, so the floor to ceiling rainbow inside was a real pleasant surprise.
Some really beautiful modern religious sculptures too - definitely worth a quick stop in if you're in san slavador

very unique archaeological site. One of the curators at the museum was very kind and gave me walk around the site and told me all about it. This is the only village of this size that can be seen today and was discovered by accident in the 1980s I believe, definitely worth a visit.

This museum is modern, clean, open and well-lit throughout. The collection is primarily paintings with some statuary. All are well displayed. Curation is articulate and presented in both Spanish and English. Admission is free on Sundays; modest the rest of the week. A beautiful, if somewhat small, contribution to fine arts. Highly recommended.

Visited whilst on day trip to capital. Interesting cathedral with lots of history. Not sure about some of the ceiling painting. Look up and you’ll see what I mean

This was definitely the spot to be at night, as there were so many restaurants and bars everywhere. The atmosphere was very cool, and it felt safe all around.

To visit the site of the assassination of Saint Oscar Romero and to hear of great his concern for social justice even unto giving his life for the poorest citizens of his country was extremely moving!

This is a large, modern museum in central Zona Rosa. It contains a large collection of relatively recent Mayan/Salvadoran anthropological artifacts. Older Mayan history is underrepresented but the displays present an extensive panorama of Salvadoran culture over the last several centuries. Exhibits are curated in both Spanish and English. This museum is highly recommended but not if the visitor's main objective is ancient Mayan history. Entrance fee is US$10.

This was a suggested optional tour on our OAT Route of the Mayas tour. Luckily all in the group elected to go, so we had bus transportation there & back to our hotel. The gardens were lovely & well maintained. We thoroughly enjoyed the visit & would highly recommend anyone visiting San Salvador to include a visit there. We especially enjoyed all the birds & other wildlife - our first view of an iguana on this trip & also an Agouti.

A trip to the top of Volcan San Salvador and El Boqueron National Park is a must if visiting San Salvador. It is a 30 minute Uber ride from the Zona Rosa area of San Salvador. Make sure you arrange for the driver to wait or return as there is no cell service at the top. It is a short mildly strenuous hike from the parking lot to the overlooks of the crater at the top of the volcano. We spent about 30-40 minutes hiking at the top. Great views of San Salvador from the road up to the top. Plenty of restaurants and cafes with spectacular views along the road to the volcano and at the top.
