Our experience with Canal & Bay tours is similar it seems to a lot of other people’s. Poor communication or incorrect information yet an amazing experience going through the locks on the canal.
We attempted to contact them 24hrs prior to our tour as requested in their email confirmation. 3 phone calls unanswered, but finally an email response around 830pm!
All of our paperwork suggested breakfast and lunch was to be included as we’d be picked up around 6-630am. The email response mentioned above said a 9am pickup. It became clear throughout the day that they do 2 tours per day. We were on the ‘lunchtime’ tour. Which meant no breakfast, luckily with the later start time we’d grabbed a coffee and a pastry to tie us over until breakfast was served. It never was!
Lunch was served on the boat about 140pm, meaning we’d been on tour for almost 5hrs before we were given any food despite having written evidence saying that breakfast was included!
Throughout the day, there was a lack of communication about what was happening and when. For example, once the boat docked we all got on a bus assuming it’d take us back to the hotel. Luckily, our assumption was correct!
Once we were on the boat, it was a brilliant tour! This part was worth a 5 star rating. Our guide, JC was full of information about the canal, it’s history, political significance and interesting trivia about it. He was engaging and funny, very approachable and just a fun guy.
It’s a real shame his talents as a guide are let down by a terrible run business. For $150US each, I honestly expected better organisation and breakfast!
