Lovely and charming old town of Panama, it’s a must visit if you are interested in history and local anecdotes. My cousin and I loved walking through the tiny streets.

So many different activities to do on the causeway, restaurants, bike rentals, ferries to Tobaga Island, and a park with rides at Isla Perico!
We rented a 4 person bike and rode down to TGI Fridays for a drink and onion rings.

Our last day in Panama, we decided to take a walk and crossed one of the "red bridges" as my friend called them, to walk along this roadway by the water. It was sunny and there is little shade (we left later in the morning). We walked all the way to the fish market where we had lunch and then continued to Casco Viejo for coffee.

Quite a good long walk. Also doable on bikes if you have them or want to rent them.

We walked la Avenida on the way from dinner at Hacienda Real. Lovely view at night. We stayed at the Bay View with a fantastic view of Balboa daily!

A really big and nice mall. Be sure to mark where you entered from as it is possible to get lost lol.

It has a wide variety of stores with literally all your needs from shoes, to clothes, accessories, household appliances, groceries, food, you name it.

My only wish would have been to encounter more folks/store clerks who knew a bit of English. Otherwise shopping here was good.

An enormous mall with over 700 stores. Last stop on the subway line . Study the mall web site before you go to orient yourself. No physical maps that I am aware of but info desks in the mall have cell phone scannable info image link

An interesting church whose main feature is the remarkable Golden Altar. If you come around Christmastime, you can also see an altogether the most incredible Nativity display.

Really nice way to get some steps / cardio while enjoying nature and the city views.

The road is paved with some stairs along the way. Thew views at the top are nice. The climb is about 30 min each way and not steep.

Cool bridge to cross over. This bridge spans the entrance of the canal on the Pacific side. Cool dramatic view of the bay and the canal from the bridge.

We were walking through the square and saw people standing outside so we walked over. There were other people standing in the square offering to be a tour guide that you could hire, but we did not, so I can not comment on that. The location is no cost to visit, but there are donation boxes if you feel you would like to leave anything. The location is beautiful with air conditioning to refresh yourself from the heat outside. There are displays which describe specific key moments. It was an accidental stop, but we were glad we ended up here since we wouldn’t have gone all the way here only for this. It was about a 10 to 15 minute visit, but very impressive.

Ruins of the original settlement near Panama City destroyed by the pirate Henry Morgan in the 1600's. Nice strolling amongst the ruins and climbing to the top of the church tower. Museum was closed due to Covid when I visited. Allow 1-2 hr for the visit. If you're short on time, Casco Viejo, Miraflores Locks and a trip to Monkey Island on Gatun lake should all be a priority over a visit here. $15 entrance fee.

This neighborhood is not on the path of an ordinary tourist, it's out of the way and it's not of a significant importance in terms of historic sites and places to see.
We visited it accidentally when the tour van was dropping off other guests after the tour. Costa del Este is a new built area, with more high rises, further on east, after the historic Panama Vieja (see that review). New modern hotels, corporation towers and apartment blocks dominate this expensive area. It reminded me on Dubai Marina, a city outside the main city.

An atmospheric church with many interesting details, not least the narrow wooden support columns. One of the can't-miss churches in Casco Viejo.

Spending time quietly within the Temple is a place of true Peace. Beauty unparalled and the grounds are equally tranquil.
