My wife and I did the 1/2 day therapeutic walk with elephants in mid-November. We were so impressed with the professionalism of MEC and the excellent experience they provided us. It was a thoroughly wonderful and unforgettable day! From start to finish, it was well-organized and relaxing, comfortable and thought-provoking. Clearly this is an organization that takes its mission seriously, as reflected in the dedication, knowledge and passion of the staff. In particular, a big thanks to Tan, the elephant master and Noy, our guide for the day. Thanks to them and MEC, I have a better understanding of the plight of captive elephants in SE Asia and now consider myself a new advocate for this cause! Thank you friends!

Must visit if you are going to the falls. Some cool, gentle butterflies and an interesting pond with fish that nibble on your feet. Watch out for some spider webs!

Here you can see elephants, feed them, ride on them. Staff is very friendly, good food. I would like to go there again.

It was my son’s 14th and so we had decided to treat him to zip lining through the jungle. When we went to book online we found a cooking course for the rest of us. The van came to pick us up from our hotel and took us there. Our journey was memorable as it was a street with hundreds of pot holes! When we got to the park my son was taken off for his adventure and joined us later to continue cooking. We were really pleased that he was just allowed to join in. The cooking class was so amazing. We often do these classes when we travel abroad but this was in a league of its own. The setting was in a rustic outside area with real fires to cook with. The food was all prepared by us under careful instructions from the manager and his helpers. Everything was so fun. We chose from a small cook book that you get to keep. We made sticky rice, which I never knew was so laborious! Lots of dishes and then at the end of our cooking experience we ate by a waterfall! It was so incredible - if you get the chance you should definitely do it. After cooking we were able to walk around the grounds and go swimming in one of the lakes. It was the highlight of our trip.

This facility is a short but scenic drive on good roads - worth a visit for a day trip from Luang Prabang! You can also arrange for longer stays in their guest facilities. Clearly built for (much) larger capacity, in the post- covid return of travellers we felt as it we had the park to ourselves. We enjoyed the botanical gardens and a swim at the waterfall. We were surprised to find elephants there, but had uninterrupted time feeding and interacting with these majestic beasts for a fraction of what such a tour might regularly cost. We didn't do any treetops or zip line activities but saw what looked to be equipped and qualified guides. There are both fast food and restaurant options on site. Enjoy this space before the throngs of tourists ramp up to capacity again. (and don't forget to stop into the pottery village en route!)

We hired a tuk tuk for the day (9 to 4pm for 500000, about £25 pounds for two adults),and stoped at Hmong village, buffalo farm, kuansi I water fall then a quick stop here on the way back. They had 6 elephants that all had chains around their ankles which we didn’t see until we paid 100000 Kip for two baskets fruit to feed them.one elephant had a heavy basket on his back which provides a chair for those who wish to ride them.Riding an elephant is not good for them despite what they have you believe. We fed the sad looking elephants the fruit and made a quick escape. The mahouts shouted at the elephants and held big sticks.I’ve travelled to many places in Asia and there are far better places to interact with elephants.

If you have time, this is a wonderful place to visit while supporting a worthwhile cause! The sanctuary is part of the NGO Free the Bears, which also has a smaller site near the main waterfall here, and sites in Vietnam and Cambodia.

This site was created more recently because they needed much more space for the Moon and Sun bears, as well as the other animals they’ve also rescued. The animals look happy and well taken care of, and have lots of space - yet this three hour encounter allows for very intimate interaction.

Our guide, Mr. Sone, was not only knowledgeable about both the animals and organization, he was also so passionate about his job! You are not rushed, but have time to really get up close and observe. It was wonderful!

Be prepared for a 45-60 minute drive over bumpy roads, however, you’re also getting to see mountain life outside the city. You DO need a reservation for this tour so they can arrange a guide - another member of my tour learned that the hard way when he just showed up two days earlier… and had to come back.

This is an educational, interesting, and just plain fun activity while in Luang Prabang, I highly recommend!
