3 days between Luang Prabang and Nong Khiaw at the north. Wat is not only a good driver and a guide, he is also very interested to share the culture of his country, he knows a lot about history, geography. Very helpful, communicating and good sens of organisation. Very pleasant trip thanks to him

Seems tricky to buy tickets yourself. We bought through our hotel as they had access to the Lao China Railway app (which we were unable to download). Make sure you buy in advance as trains sell out. Tickets open and become available 3 days before. Also get to station early for security and passport / ticket check. Also they dont allow aerosoles / flammables in luggage

Beware in terms of luggage contents
As mentioned it’s airline style security and whilst we were not extorted for any bribes, the rule is strictly applied that any butane powered aerosol over 120 mil is not allowed.

Our mosquito repellent was 125 mil was spotted on the x-ray, so just be aware

Somsay was a very organized and professional tour operator. Arranged us an excellent city tour in Vientiane at short notice, his guide Khampao was so knowledgeable and friendly. Somsay also organized a lovely bamboo experience with cooking class in Luang Prabang for us. We cannot thank you enough for the great service and hospitality. He is not only a guide but a true friend in Laos. Highly recommended 👌.

Booked a 14 person minivan from Luang Prabang to Vientiane. They put 20 people into a 8.5 hr bus ride. One of the people stole my wallet during the ride. Before we reached Vientiane, the driver stopped on side of the road to meet with a car and locked us in. When we reached Vientiane, he laughed at me when I said my wallet was stolen. He also wouldn't call police, not sure if they exist in Laos. Do not trust Vieng Chaleune or you may also get dropped off at 230 AM without any money. Just incredible that this is allowed to happen.

Normally this time of the year I would traveling aboard around the world but since we are lockdown I find this place by chance and went there with group of friends , a bit hard if you don’t practice a bit before go up there . When I get there it’s so beautiful view both sunset and sunrise. It’s very local style to adventure and glad I made it there
