- Safari49985564308Dunedin, New Zealand3 contributionsWe went there as part of a day tour (including the Mekong and Pak Au Caves - already reviewed). Even as New Zealanders, we were impressed by this powerful and beautiful spectacle.Written 21 September 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Brooke BDeWitt, MI13 contributionsThis tour is a must-do! We had an incredible time experiencing how rice is made, from plowing the field with the water buffalo, to planting, to harvesting, to separating the rice from husk, to cooking. I have a much greater appreciation for the rice growing process now. We also had a lovely lunch. The staff was friendly and spoke English well.Written 7 July 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Linda1124Colorado Springs, CO2 contributionsWhat a beautiful experience to have with the elephants at MandaLao. The guides were very informative on how MandaLao started, their mission, and goals which helped me connect with the conservation program.
I love that there is a way to spend time with these majestic creatures in their natural habitat without imposing elephant riding or activities that hurt the elephant.
I did the half day tour but ended up wishing I did the full day. I wouldn’t sleep on this experience! It was the highlight of my trip.Written 5 September 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - KTP310Reading, UK927 contributionsWe loved strolling through the beautiful old quarter, which has a very relaxed atmosphere. There is so much to see - stylish colonial buildings, beautiful temples and loads of great coffee shops and restaurants. - phuttyTallinn, Estonia1,370 contributionsThis lovely park, run by a very friendly and welcoming Dutch woman, is at the higher end of the scale cost-wise for attractions in Luang Prabang, but is nevertheless worth a visit while visiting Kuang Si. The setting is beautiful, there's a lovely cafe and some of the butterflies are truly gorgeous. Great undertaking. Oh, and the fish spa is fantastic!Written 12 January 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Miles ArcherBoca Raton, FL7,606 contributionsThe waterfalls here are braided and stepped. It's very scenic. - TheaMo i Rana, Norway8 contributionsStarted of with a trip to the local market where we learned so much about different ingredients and got to try some things. The cooking class itself was amazing and our teacher, Sit, was incredible. He explained everything, didn’t stress and was super funny. - LiDingYanLa Jolla, CA385 contributionsReopened after a long hiatus closure due to Covid-19, Elephant Village welcomes a brand new member into the herd... a playful and curious two-and-a-half year old female calf who just arrived here four days ago.
She is still acclimating to the new environment, the people, and cohabiting adult elephants, hence still needs to be closely watched by her amicable, young trainer (aka "mahout"). She will be unharnessed in due time when habituated.
All the other older elephants on site are not chained as they are used to the guests. These days, no elephants at this village are ridden by guests and their daily routines seem to be carefree. They cross the Nam Khan River from their living area in the early morning around 8am. Get bathed and fed by guests and return home to their jungle habitat around noon. They all seem relaxed and happy with their mahouts.
The adorable calf stays in Elephant Village full-time, awaiting her permanent sleeping quarter to be built next to Villa 3 as the site expands further South along the river bank. Her brothers and sister may join her at Elephant Village in two years or so.Written 18 March 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The music and atmosphere were perfect and peaceful for the cruise. It was very special, we wrote a burden on a banana leaf and sunk them ceremonially in the river, a really unique touch that added to the experience. Would strongly recommend!Written 6 September 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- TomasMilan, Italy390 contributionsA marvellous experience and a typical lunch served at the borso really tasted great. Watching the calm waters of the mekong from the comfort of this ship is an extraordinary experience. Visiting the Whisky Village and the caves was then able to discover something typically local. Truly a beautiful experienceWritten 30 April 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
