- Stefanie LHanau, Germany12 contributionsThe Rice field experience was excellent from the beginning to the end. When everybody from our group arrived, we were welcomed by Sai, our guide for the day and started with some coffee or tea with a beautiful view over the rice field in the early morning, which I really liked. Sai speaks good english, is very friendly and has a nice humor. He explained all the steps well, could answer questions from the group and had us try the different steps. We also tasted some home made rice wine and enjoyed a glass of sugar cane juice made on our own.
I can only reconmend to book the experience with lunch, as it was absolutely delicious. Everybody we got to know from the family and company was heartwarming friendly and we had a great time at the living land farm.Written 14 January 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The whole end to end experience was great and very professional. The guides are passionate in both educating the locals and tourists, and in their care for the elephants.
If an ethical decision is top of mind, I’d say MandaLao is an excellent choice. I was worried about this, as there are a lot of cowboys out there, so I watched very very closely and I can say everyone I saw interacted with the elephants with love and kindness. The elephants were rarely touched, and if they were it was with a loving hand and not a stick. The elephants seemed content wandering through the forest, grazing at their own pace.
You’ll absolutely not regret your visit here. I’d return in a heartbeat.Written 4 January 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. As of January 2025 the fee to hike Mount Phousi (Sacred Mountain) is 30,000 Kip, they will accept Thai Baht and I suspect US dollars. The first set of steps is the steepest and the longest of the hike. Don't try to be a hero and take those first set of steps quickly, take your time at the bottom and the rest of the hike will be much easier. At the top where you can see the airport to the north east, the mountains to the east, the Mekong river to the south west and the west side of the Mekong. The name of the golden Chedi (or padoda) that you can see from below is named "That Chomsi". There is a small Viharn or Sermon Hall on the opposite side of the Chedi with various Buddha figures inside. If you want to see the sunrise or sunset I would advise to go early, both of these draw large crowds to the top.Written 13 January 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Alicia S227 contributionsIt is quiet and beautiful, with photographs of the main temple, smaller outlying structures, and the golden dwelling of the river boat that was used to transport the ancient monarch to his burial. Beautiful paintings and mosaics abound, and the main Wat has a large Buddha! Don't overlook the little entrance charge entering the complex.Written 14 January 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Doc BokVientiane, Laos255 contributionsWhile this is obviously here for tourists, it's a great place to shop for souvenirs and try out local street food. At one end there is a large square with many food stalls from around the world so you can get a taste of home after taking the slow boat. On Fridays/Saturdays they have live bands here, which gives it a lively atmosphere.Written 3 December 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - BTS1972Munich, Germany3,745 contributionsYou have to get up early to see the local monks walking to get their daily rations and gifts from the town's inhabitants. It is a very emotional and sacral moment that one rarely has the opportunity to see and take fotos of.Written 26 November 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Rebecca K11 contributionsThere were many things to do around the city. We spent much time strolling around. A day tour to local vilalge and Kuangsi water fall was also worth doing. - ianwyjSingapore5,221 contributionsProbably the largest complex of buildings in Luang Prabang, the grounds of the former Royal Palace bear testament to Laos's storied history over the last half-decade or so. Built for the royal family at the turn of the last century in what was then the country's capital, the buildings were eventually converted into a museum when the communists took power. During our visit, we spent more time strolling along the corridors of the main palace. Highlights included the king's & queen's reception rooms, murals depicting scenes of Lao life, statues, silk screens (one of which was weaved by a former queen), and various diplomatic gifts. Photography was prohibited so visitors will have to be content with relying on their memory. We also visited the palace temple and the barge museum. The former was moderately large in size with a three-tiered roof with an elaborate gold leaf-decorated facade, the highlight being the Buddha statue that gives its name to the city. Here again, photography was not allowed. There was also a royal cars exhibitiong (not much to see) with a couple of old petrol pumps (in poor condition), a couple of royal carriages (at least that's what the sign said). Do take note that the grounds are closed for a couple of hours at midday.Written 8 June 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Sharolyn PKingman, Canada85 contributionsWe had an amazing 3 day experience. We had several amazing Mahout Experiences, did a kayak trip to Pak Ou caves and visited Kuang Si Waterfalls. Our host Chit at the Elephant Camp was amazing as was all of the staff they made our two nights at this beautiful accommodations so special. The food was great and the hospitality was stellar. And the Elephants were definitely the highlight as this experience was a once in a lifetime thrill. The service and treatment we received was over the top!!Written 14 January 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Katherine10 contributionsIts a really relaxing place. On the way back from the Kuang Si waterfalls, you can ask the electric vehicle driver to drop you at the butterfly park. After the hustle and bustle of the waterfalls, this was a really chill place. You can see many butterflies and learn about their lifecycles, as well as stop in a natural fish spa. We really enjoyed sitting by the waterfalls that they have at the center. As there are few people at the butterfly park, it was nice to sit and enjoy the sound of small waterfalls without the crowds. Small, but still beautiful and all to yourself.Written 15 January 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- sharon pLondon, UK271 contributionsThis park is amazing spent a wonderful 4 hours here, rented a scooter and it was quite an easy ride too.
I am glad that it is not on the usual tourist trail, as it was very quiet and we was able to explore without the masses, as well as take some un- interrupted photos.
If you have some spare time I would definitely recommend coming here for a few hours, we didn't get to do the tree top walk as we didn't bring enough money 😢 but it looked awesome.
The small waterfalls are very pretty, and there is a little restaurant serving food and drinks, there is a little bit of climbing to do but nothing too strenuous.
I personally would not hike to the caves as we did, its basically 2 little holes that even a 5 year old would struggle to fit through.
the views all around are wonderful.Written 27 November 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
