The Kurashiki Bikan Historical Quarter is a beautiful and great place to visit and even if you are not into its history or culture, the scenery there will surely make you indulged in it. The views are like those you watched on tv or seen at postcards, its so nice.

We were lucky as we managed to catch the last batch of trees with red/yellow autumn leaves. It was awesome. Strolling along the canal destress one, so calm and peaceful, seeing lovely swans and fishes in the canal while enjoying the heritage shophouses and lovely trees. It's picturesque!

There are also shops and cafes around, with local specialties and products for visitors to grab.

    Highly recommended.

From Kurushiki station, walk about 15mins to here. Very straight way with good directional signs.

Excellent collections of the most famous European artists! Couldn't believe we were looking at the originals. Representative pieces!

More than 30 years have passed since the bridge was inaugurated. But it was my first time to use this bridge to travel to Shikoku. The view from the train was, in spite of some bridged beams, wonderful.

The hourly loop bus from JR Kojima Station bus stop no. 4 to Washuzan Second Observatory runs from 08:30 to 17:30 and costs ¥260.

After getting off the bus at Washuzan Second Observatory, there is a useful information board highlighting the six lookout points showing different angles of the magnificent Seto Ohashi Bridge. This served as my walking map.

Too bad it was not a day for sunset views but the varying picturesque views of the great bridge spanning to Shikoku over Seto Inland Sea and the surrounding islands really made up for it.

On our walking tour to Kurashiki Bikan Historical Quarter, we passby this shrine. It's a nice Shinto shrine located at the side corner of the street and the main building is on top of the hill which visitors need to walk up flight of steps.

And unlike other shrines, this is a less crowded one and quiet, which is good as visitors can enjoy the peace, calmness and tranquility while walking in its ground.

Good place to visit if you are in the area.

Okay!!!!!! There are vines!!! It's a nice courtyard. It's made of bricks. There are souvenir stores and cafes surrounding the courtyard.

Don't go out of your way to visit.

    Nice place to rest.

We saw the signage along the road and followed it to Ohashi House. This old historical house is preserved for all to see, for a small entry fee. Explore the gardens and interior. It is beautifully preserved and a genuine gem.

For a denim head definitely worth a visit, but for others I am not sure it is worth it. The area seems to be struggling - ghost town feeling with empty streets and shops. But if you are interested in denim, many fine shops.

This museum gives some historical background on Kurashiki's textile industry. Only some of the labels are in English so I had to use Google Translate a bit, nonetheless I found it informative. The factory management seems to have been quite enlightened regarding employee welfare, and there are some great historical photos and artifacts. The Expo 70 display reminded me of the fashions common in my childhood.

Best site to view the Great Seto Bridge. You can capture the full image of the bridge with your camera if the weather is fine. Sakura trees scattered around the observation deck add color to your photos in their blooming season. Facilities include parking lots, souvenir shop, restaurant and rest rooms.

A rather smallish outlet mall with some brand names like Coach, Boss and Polo. There are a number of sports and shoes stores like Clarkes, Adidas Golf. Adidas, Nike, Under Armour and Hawkins.

We liked the Le Creusuet and T-fal shops, as well as Gap. It is just a few minutes’ walk from the Kurashiki JR station, which is convenient.

The museum has a collection of beautiful stoneware pots, jugs and other pottery from contemporary potters and older. There are wooden family chests as well as bamboo and basket work. There was a traditional raffia raincoat which I had only previously seen in Hiroshige wood prints. The building itself is also interesting - strong wooden beams as it was previously a rice warehouse many centuries ago.
