Built in 1912, St Michaels was a La Sallian missionary school. The facade is an impressive example of neo-gothic architecture. It's not a tourist attraction per se but a functioning school and you can't simply walk in.

But the facade can be enjoyed from the outside.

Once a bustling tin-mining town, Papan is now lined with abandoned shoplots, Papan was once home to more than 2,000 people.but now less than 200 people.

Many residents moved to Ipoh, or to KL and now left the older generation living here. Papan. Many of the buildings in Papan are worn off but 100 years still stand strong, preserving the town’s rich heritage.

From our guide told us that Papan was one of the earliest tin frontiers in the Kinta Valley, attracting many migrants to reside here, but now a mere forgotten ghostly town

Hope this town can preserved for our younger generations to see,

In the historical centre, a beautiful old building transformed into workshops and exhibition galleries for talented artists. There we discover a tasty and creative art of working with wood and stone. A warm and nostalgic historic setting where you can have a drink on a nice terrace.

Hubby and I heard about these ancient rock paintings and decided to check them out in February. The directions to this site is pretty poor and it took us awhile to figure it out. The landmark to look for in Ipoh is the Caltex petrol station on Jalan Tambun, close to where Jalan Tambun passes underneath the Lebuhraya Utara - Selatan (North South Expressway). There is a short lane next to the petrol station which leads down to the gated entrance to a polo field. Park here (next to the no parking signs!) or somewhere nearby and continue on foot.-Squeeze past the gated entrance. Follow the track at the edge of the polo field along the foot of the hill. Soon after 500 m you will see a wooden gazebo with a flight of concrete steps going up the hill. Once you reach the top of the steps the rock paintings can be found on the cliff face in front of you, off to the right.

The rock paintings are visible and they depict land animals such as boar and deer, mountain goat, reptiles and amphibians like turtles and ‘izards and aquatic creatures such as catfish and various fish. There are also human beings and shapes of fruits. It is sad to see that this place has been vandalised and a new conservation or management strategy must be considered in order to protect these paintings from further harm.
