    Bull fight
    Must watch , the challenge is finding the spot, day and time, the good part is there is bloodshed, use a DSLR with a 200 mm lens , lot of dust , cover your self and the camera, the show will last for max 1 hour

    Not Barka Fort !!
    We had put this smaller sized fortified home on our to do list for our self drive holiday through Oman. Finding it is quite a challenge, as it is not signposted (and do not follow signs to Barka Fort since Bait Na'aman or Na'aman Castle is a DIFFERENT landmark). By 2020, Google maps accurately pinpointed it. Don't let the unscenic approach of the last one kilometer discourage you either,for the fortified home will suddenly emerge from the side of the road...
    Once found, we were beckoned in by a local guide who proved to be the expert guide of the last 30 years and who had lovingly explained the history to countless tourists since the restoration back in 1991. Much like a primary school teacher, this retired army man explained the human face of Islam to us, visiting every day situations like conflicts, education, marital life etc.. very graphic in his teachings , we loved every second of his class...
    Much like Thomas Friedman would have said: we may forget what it was he told us exactly, but never the intensity and style that marked his presence as a guide !!!

    Small mall with large Carrefour supermarket
    The Barka Grand Center is a small shopping mall in the Barka district near Muscat. There is a good food court there with Burger King, Pizza Inn, Chickoland, Starbucks, Noodle Shop (Noodles, biryanis, curries fried rice, pasta). The shopping is limited, but there is a large electrical/electronic shop & a huge Carrefour, which is the best of its kind in Muscat.

    TRIP TO ZOO
    Good for kids. Will be able to see the birds and animals close up.
    Feeding the animals and birds is good experience for the kids.
    Better maintenance required.

    A Fish and Vegetable Market
    Thre is not a lot of tourism infrastucture in Oman. As part of a tour we stopped at the souk (Market) for a short break. It was facsinating to watch the locals barter and sell the morning catch. Large prawns, various fish including tune and vegetables a plenty were to be found. It is very "rustic" but worth the stop.

    Not much choice
    Muscat Global Center at Al Rumais Barka is also known as China Mall as it has exclusively chinese shops selling made in China products. Good for people residing close to it but waste of time for Muscat residents.
