- DrDouglas1971Edinburgh, UK180 contributionsAs a lover of art and galleries I greatly enjoyed my visit. I walked from (and to) Merdaka Square on a particularly hot day so you might want to take a Grab or public transport.
The building itself is modern with welcoming staff. You can leave backpacks and such in the free lockers and then explore; admission is also free. The design allows lots of natural light to flood in and viewpoints to the world outside.
There are 6 floors most of which are dedicated to currency and finance as well as Malaysian culture & development.
The artwork is varied and covers many genres; the shadow puppet exhibition was great; they even had Marvel and Star Wars characters.
The cafe was inexpensive and served a decent cup of tea and the gift shop had a good range of mementos.

Very well displayed over 4 galleries with good description. Worth spending 1-1:30 hour reading about the details of textiles. We spent a couple of hours here, we particularly enjoyed looking at the old maps exploring how South East Asia played an important role in trade routes and how Malaysian culture has been heavily influenced over time! Our Grab driver told us this was better than the Museum - we enjoyed the variety of art styles and felt we learnt about local culture through various mediums!
If you’re sick of shopping this is a great way to escape the afternoon heat - and it’s free!

Nothing like some silly family fun taking photos of this 3D art. Very clean and lovely helpful staff who will gladly take pics for you if needed.
It was very quite with 1 only other family at the time of our visit.

It showcases arts and crafts of the Orang Asli aboriginal communities who mostly inhabit rural areas throughout the country. We enjoyed the display of skillfully carved masks and statues from the Mah Meri and Jah Hut tribes. Honestly, I expected a much bigger place because this museum is listed as one of the major sites in KL. The other issue was that you cannot enter this museum if you don't scan some code and pay online, No cash or credit cards accepted. I go to museums very often and this was the first case when the currency or cards are not accepted. The lady at the counter had to ask a random tourist to pay for us from their phone and we gave that tourist our cash. I stumbled upon on it on my way back from Merdeka square. I was feeling bit flu-ish. I decided to seek little rest in an air-conditioned oasis. Entrance was free - Air-conditioning was great.
It is a small museum perhaps you need around 1 hour. But displays are interesting and educational.
