    We had a fantastic day in Rio with Ederson. He was courteous, knowledgeable, entertaining and flexible … a great tour guide for an exciting city!

    Informative tour, sometimes a bit rushed
    The tour itself is very informative and you get a good overview over petropolis.
    The stops except the imperial palace are sometimes too short to really take in the at atmosphere, but it is understandable with the short time available.
    Our guide Celia was really knowledgable! The group size was good, the minibus was only 2/3 full, so you could spread out a bit. Unfortunately we were the first to enter and the last to exit the tour, which meant that we got to pick up /drop off all passengers in the morning/afternoon…. Lost time for us…. But at least we had first choice in seats
    What we did not like:
    The stop at the chocolate factory: felt a bit like those paid stops at carpet factories in Tunisia/Turkey. I did not feel the need to buy chocolate with 34 degrees temperature…
    The lunch was not great, it was a mediocre buffet. A quick stop at a sanduicheria would have been better.
    Value for money is good overall, we enjoyed the day!

    A Wonderful Day
    A truly wonderful day!. Could not have asked or hoped for more. We even got to go up to the second floor of the house to set an errors. The casino was amazing and Marcelo found us a perfect place to have a lunch. Marcelo is very knowledgeable, and we would highly recommend booking a tour with him. Beautiful drive to and from Petropolis.

    Tour to petropolis
    The bus arrivarrivped on time although there was a lot of traffic. The guide was good had to do the talk in 4 different languages. He was very informative and took time to answer questions. Down side lunch was not included for us we could have played rs45 for the buffet but we dont eat a meal at lunchtime so was left for 45mins to sort ourselves out in an area where there wasn't a lot to see or do. At the end of the tour some of the group went on a brewery tour (extra) the rest of us where taken to a shopping street clothes and such which To be honest could have done without. All in all it was a good trip and we both enjoyed it.

    Petropolis tour from Rio
    Tour by Mama Cris was fantastic . She was very active speaking in English, Spanish and Portuguese. We visited many places in Petropolis.

    Petropolis- Kev
    This was a great tour and a great way to end my visit to Brazil. The tour guide Francesco was excellent, he kept everybody informed and was full of interesting facts. Despite being solo he made everybody feel welcome and created a good atmosphere for the tour group. Well worth a visit!

    Interesting tour
    This tour is more significant for Portuguese decendents as it's very historical and the main attraction is the Imperial Palace where the majority of the time is spent. For a foreigner it's interesting but can be a bit much as it doesn't have the significance it does for decendents.

    The Bohemian Brewery was interesting and the beers we tasted were good.

    The chocolate factory was disappointing as it is not a factory but more a coffee shop and the selection of chocolates available to buy were very limited.

    We were the only 2 English sneaking on the tour which did make it a bit difficult but credit must go to our guide Roma who really went out of his way to try to explain as much as possible to us.

    All in all an interesting day.

    Book with City Rio. Reliable.
    Very good trip with the guide Roma and his driver Edmilson. We saw the Cathedral, Royal Palace Museum and the Crown Jewel. The buffet was very good. Too much food.

    Travessia Petrópolis-Teresópolis in February
    Great agency for nature-lovers. They offer a wide variety of packages. A bit on the pricier side, however they delivered 100%. Great communication. Flawless organisation. Plus, they provided for equipment that I didn't have myself. I did the "Travessia Petrópolis-Teresópolis" out of season and they still organised a private guide for me who is a native of Petrópolis and therefore knew the area inside and out. It was fantastic. And the weather-gods did the rest, as it hardly rained. As to the trek itself, it was a rather challenging one but I wouldn't miss out on this great experience, breathtaking views. I greatly recommend the agency and the trek. Thank You.

    City in the mountains!
    Beautiful day. I was the last pick up, thankfully. I was given notice from tour company they were a bit late for my pick up, very thoughtful!
    Nice group to travel with. Clean Mercedes van. I was the only English speaking person so there wasn't a lot of translating for me tho I could figure most of it out. It seemed to me it could have been better if we had just 1 stop instead of 2 before we got there to move things along. First stop for bathroom was at a strange location at a restaurant parking lot. Nothing to do for 20 min. Next stop at the chocolate store, only a bit further, was cute w/more than chocolate. Stayed there too long as well.
    This is a lovely city. You can understand why it's popular. The imperial palace is impressive. We finally had lunch after 2:00. It was a good buffet with many options. Afterwards, the church and crystal palace were worthwhile. Then off to shop for an hour. By now it's getting dark. Had the time been better managed....

    Full day trip to Petropolis from Rio
    We enjoyed a full day trip with Ederson Oliveira. He is very knowledgeable about the history of Brazil in general and Rio and Petropolis in particular. Among places we visited were Quitandinha palace, St. Peter’s Cathedral, Imperial Palace, Chrystal Palace. By the end of the day we learned a lot of interesting facts about the royal family and various historical events that shaped Brazil in the 19th century.
    Ederson is a very friendly, accommodating and well informed a type of a guide one would like to have in an unfamiliar place. We are happy that we decided to explore Petropolos, specifically with Ederson. 5 stars, highly recommended, thank you very much, Ederson.

    Save a Day for Petropolis when in Rio !
    We had an outstanding private tour with Flavio that allowed to discover the wonderful city of Petropolis. Everyone stays and concentrates in Rio but this a great trip into the mountains outside the city and well worth your time.

    This is the imperial city and Emporer Pedro 2 and Theresa ruled from here ! On the scenic drive (1 hr) up the mountains Flavio explained the rich history of Brazil and the imperial family. It is a very nice drive with many picturesque overlooks. After visiting the former casino (huge bavarian style building) Flavio led us personally through the imperial museum and explained all the important exhibits. So much better than just reading place cards.

    We then saw the main cathedral de alcantara where the royal family is buried which is excellent gothic architecture and walked through the area seeing the different historic homes and parks. Petropolis is a city made for strolling.

    A complete surprise and to me one of the best reasons to see Petropolis was to visit the Santos Dumont home and learn about his life- he was actually the father of aviation (not the Wright Brothers!) and its a fascinating tour through his home.

    We had a buffet lunch at a very nice restaurant and saw the crystal palace -

    Flavio was passionate about sharing his knowledge and life experiences in Brazil with us - this made the tour so much more enjoyable and the fact that it was a private tour made it more personable.

    We give Flavio and the tour of Petropolis an enthusiastic recommendation. Its a special place and you will be really pleased you took the time to visit ...with Flavio !
