- Charlie DAtenas, Costa Rica479 contributionsMy last visit was in 2023 at Esquinas Rainforest Lodge (2nd time there) where I celebrated my 83rd birthday with lots of wildlife and nature photography you can see in my online gallery. I have also visited the park from Playa Cativo Lodge and both are excellent and good for nature photography. Esquinas is adjacent to the La Gamba Rainforest Research Station which is a plus and it doesn't require a boat ride to get there.Written 21 March 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Surprised there weren't more birds. 2nd hike was to a waterfall and it was challenging, having to cross small fast moving streams. One person in our group fell in the water and another sprained his ankle. Walk carefully and a walking stick is helpful. Waterfall was very pretty. Forest is exceptional.Written 24 January 2017This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Robert VBE10 contributionsA really beautiful place! Call ahead of time and the land managers will get a boat to pick you up where the caretaker meets you. We hiked through stunning jungle for about 25 minutes before reaching what can only be described as the most incredible view of the Golfo Dulce. Definitely do a boat tour on the Gulf if you have time BTW, we just went with Golfito Outfitters and it was the best day of our whole trip! During our hike we saw 2 monkey types and lots of birds. There were bathrooms for us to use and water from the source to refill our bottles. We got very sweaty since it was so humid, so remember your water bottle.Roberto the caretaker was so lovely, we shared our packed lunch with him which we took up and he gave us some mamones fruits from the garden in exchange!Written 14 August 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Jasmin NCape Verde13 contributionsIt was amazing, everything and more we would have hoped for. We saw a lot of animals and our guide Carlos was AMAZING! Such a lovely guy who had the patient to show and tell us everythind and took amazing photos for us with his fancy Swarowski (!!!) telescope! We saw monkeys, cayman, snake, tapir, bunch of birds and the list goes on…. Will be back 100%!Written 13 July 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Kate BGeorgia14 contributionsDO IT. I booked the Longboard Surfhouse retreat in Southern CR. I’d do it over again in a heartbeat. Already looking at other SWA retreat locations to attend. So. First. this was my very first solo trip as a 30 something female. I was really nervous traveling by myself to another country let alone walking into a group of women i’ve never met before. The entire travel experience was seamless despite my taxi driver being late to pick me up by a few minutes. No big deal. Marin (one of the surf coaches) was reachable via whatsapp and reassured me he was on the way. It was nice being able to communicate in an extremely remote area I wasn’t familiar with.
Secondly. The coaches. I don’t even know where to begin with how AMAZING each of them are. They are so talented and inspiring to learn from. You can tell SWA really takes pride in selecting their instructors. You can tell they really care about curating an unforgettable experience when it comes to improving your skill in the water. I really loved talking to each of them. They curated a real fun environment for us and met us where we’re at in our surf journey. If you’re seeing this I love y’all so much!!!! 😭🫶🏻🫶🏻 thank you again for an unforgettable experience.
Accommodations. I chose a private room with a private bath away from the main house. I didn’t realize this at the time so just be aware to read the description on the website if you’d rather be in the main house. The property is kind of like a little compound… so you have the main house with pool, kitchen, patio, yoga area, bar etc. and then a short 5 min walk a way are three other little separate houses. I was in one of them and it had its own little kitchen area and then there was another room that was being shared with two other Amigas whom I bonded with during our stay. Everything was very clean and well kept. We had someone clean our room for us every day. The only downside I had was the water pressure in the shower and the hot water not working properly. But also going in to this retreat I wasn’t looking for luxury… just something that was clean and functional.. which it was! The bed was really comfy and the room and bathroom was cute and cozy. Also it’s so hot and humid down there that you really don’t need the hot water. Lol.
The food. they really mean it when they say you won’t go hungry! they had amazing ladies cooking for us the entire time. Breakfast, Second breakfast, lunch and dinner. the food was 10/10. Complements to the chefs. We need a SWA cookbook!!!!
All in all. This trip is for the woman who is seeking adventure and improving her surf skills but also connecting with other like minded women. If you’ve never traveled abroad by yourself this is a great way to start. SWA has set my expectations so high when it comes to surf retreats. This retreat was so well thought out and so educational. I can’t hype them up enough! Thank you again for everything Amigas! See you soon! 🏄♀️🏄♀️Written 24 August 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
