What travellers are saying
- Dena4 contributionsSuch a lovely town, full of history and culture. We loved it and I would love to go back one day. It's cheap, walkable and so beautiful!Written 12 March 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Jim WSindelfingen, Germany2,930 contributionsUnfortunately, the old clock tower is undergoing a face-lift so we could not see the clock functioning or hears its sounds. However, the rest of it is very interesting and showcases a variety of art and furniture over the years. It is better to have a guide to explain all you are looking at otherwise it may simply seem like a hodgepodge of items being displayed. It was great to get a close up view of the figurines at the top. You can also view the city below from a small window. By no means a must see attraction, but it was included in our tour package and only takes about an hour to see everything.Written 15 January 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Patrick T1 contributionTeo (the owner) was amazing. He runs his own business and knows the history of the entire place. Enthusiastic about everything and welcomed our international crowd (USA, Norway, and Dutch) with open arms. Make sure to ask to try the Palinca! He brews it himself and has won many awards for it globally!
Highly recommend stopping by here at least for a drink if not for a stay!Written 2 March 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Amazing, quiet and relaxing place!Written 25 August 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Construction begun in the XIIIth century and got finished in the 1400's.
It is a gothic style church, but with very little ornaments on the exterior - Saxon church, fortified - is not very unusual.
Visiting fee is 10 RON, but it is money well spent. The interior is spectacular with the ceiling containing gothic arches and remaining frescoes, from the middle ages, that were covered in white paint after the Lutheran reform reached the Saxon communities in Transylvania.
Also you can visit the catacombs under the church - it is not much to be seen there , but it adds to the overall experience. At the entrance you will receive a laminated paper that will tell you about the main items to be seen inside.
It is a World Heritage site and definitely worth a visit ... when you are in Sighisoara.Written 30 December 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Alex FThe Villages, FL1,483 contributionsEspectacular from a distance. Not a chance to visit. From the outside it is a beautiful Romania Orthodox Church, in the bank of the Tamara River.Written 25 April 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Tiberiu_BaranyiTimisoara, Romania12,986 contributionsThe history museum of Sighisoara, created by Dr. Joseph Bacon in 1899 is functioning inside the clock tower of Sighisoara. Entrance fee is 16 RON / adult and you can climb the tower up to the observation platform and you can take some great pics of the city.
As you climb the levels you will see exhibits ranging from the times before the Roman period till the modern ages, you will learn about the guilds and their contribution to the development of medieval Sighisoara and to the modern times and on the last floor before getting out to the balcony/observation platform- you will see the exhibit section dedicated to Hermann Oberth (he was one of the teachers of Werner Von Braun and had a direct contribution on the building of V-2 rockets during WWII) one of the fathers of rocket science and pioneer in that field.
Overall a very nice museum - well worth the entrance fee.Written 30 December 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews. - Tiberiu_BaranyiTimisoara, Romania12,986 contributionsTurnul Cizmarilor (the Shoe/Bootmakers Tower in English) was built originally in the 16th century, its' current shape was given after several refurbishment and rebuild activities (in the fire of 1676 it was destroyed to the foundation - the earthquake of 1681 also affected severely the tower).
It was part of the cities fortification in medieval times and it was maintained and guarded (in time of siege/war) by the members of the Bootmaker's Guild.
Nowadays is an attraction - preserved for touristic purposes - in the medieval city of Sighisoara, pity is not used for medieval exhibits, nor can you visit the interior.
So when you are n Sighisoara and you are walking the narrow streets, you can stop for a few pics. (If you are on a guided tour, the tour guide will give plenty of details about this tower)Written 11 December 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
