Brought visitors here many times. Great mountain view of the continental divide, Buffalo Bills gravesite, museum(excellent and only a few dollars) and Buffalo Bill store trading post. Can be windy at times…paragliders are fun to watch. Lots of bicyclers climbing and descending, they love love love it. There’s a Colorado nature center that is great too.

This is a gorgeous state park. It is especially beautiful in the fall when the Aspens are changing colors. I have done the Raccoon Trail and the Burro Trail (with a Windy Mt offshoot and some parts of the Mountain Lion Trail as add ons to the route). The rangers at the headquarters are lovely and will give you advice on what hikes to do based on the time of year and level of difficulty you desire. The drive in and out of the park is quite fun with lots of winding mountain roads.

My husband and I visited this site on our way out of Denver heading west, and after visiting the gravesite and seeing the spectacular view, we had a very nice breakfast at their cute cafe/gift shop.

They have this tour down to a science. It was very fun and all of the people were friendly that work for Coors. The beer is great too!

Even the tag-along to the train buff enjoyed this spot. We were fortunate to be there Saturday when you can get a train ride, on which they point out specialized engines and cars to check out after the ride

Grab a tube, kayak, whatever! Or rent one! This river is a blast to paddle down! The water was moving pretty fast even though it was the end of summer, and it's COLD! 67 degrees!

We were in town for a basketball tournament and wanted to get out of the room to let my daughter sleep in, so we drove up to Lookout Mountain. This place was very relaxing and the views were amazing.

My companion and I started up a very steep trail, with our small dog, on a sunny breezy day in early winter. About halfway up, we were carrying the dog. This is not a generous-with-switchbacks sort of trail; more like climbing one of those dizzying streets in San Francisco. If you persist, you will be rewarded with a nearly flat, true mesa at the top. Fascinating to consider it was formed by ancient lava flows. Below the mesa on the not-too-distant horizon is the Denver skyline, providing a superb and thought-provoking contrast to the open, high-altitude, brown-grass-covered, windswept foreground. We had no trouble with crowds, exchanging pleasant greetings with several groups both up and down, while still having the mesa top on the edge opposite the trail summit largely to ourselves. The bravest group we encountered on the trail down consisted of a father with two cute and astoundingly determined-looking siblings, a boy and girl, one 5, the other 7. Don't know if they made it to the top, but kudos for the effort in any event.

There is some very nice scenery here, close to the city and easily accessible. The trails are nicely routed to make opportunities to view and walk among the Red Rocks.

This enormous park, with 20 miles of trails over consistently scenic terrain, is a gift to both hikers and bikers. As you gradually gain elevation, the views of the Denver skyline alone make the effort worthwhile, but in truth, there are rewards to be found looking in every direction; we watched a group of deer leaping gracefully over a wooden fence, for example. The usual tip applies here: early morning and late afternoon/early evening are best for avoiding crowds. The shade can also be a welcome bonus when that high-elevation sun has kicked into gear.
