I actually grew up going to Sunken Gardens because just next door is Great Explorations children's museum. I recently took my 81 year old mother to Sunken Gardens. It had been a while since we've been. We still love going there! It is an oasis in the middle of busy St. Petersburg. If you want to escape to a tropical location, but don't want to fly to Hawaii, this is the perfect spot! You can take your time exploring the garden & some animals as well.

I would highly recommend this spot for all members of the family. This would make a great place for a photoshoot, wedding photos, a date, or a birthday surprise for an elderly parent, like I did.

We took the walk out to the observation tower which gives nice views of the foliage as well as the bay and city skylines. The museum was a wonderful surprise. The exhibits were unigue and well done, rivaling what you would pay for in a city musuem. Lots of hands-on exhibits, all very interesting.

Enjoyable walks in the Florida sunshine; fresh gulf breezes, blue sky, clear water, and directly across from the Vinoy hotel.

Me and my two boys love visiting this little park. Walking around and looking at all the cool trees and looking at the water. So relaxing and calm place to hang out.

Great venue for American Stage Theatre production. Sound quality excellent, comfortable outdoor seating, easy parking, reasonable prices at concessions, tho also allowed to bring your own food & beverages for a cozy picnic on the lawn if you dont buy seats.. All around lovely setting if you go on a clear night. Suggest bug repellent for no-seeums that descend at dusk

Free parking. Free visit. Clean, well-maintained and everything labeled with names of trees.

Nearby benches and restrooms. View of Tampa Bay and beach volleyball.

Great place to take a walk. Lots of dog walkers agree.

I would have given this a 5-star review if not for the crabby attendant on the entrance. The old chunky and curly hair lady doesn't seem to be happy with her job. She raised her voice when we're talking to her for directions. Not everyone is familiar with the place so it's very natural for tourists to ask for questions. Apparently, she's not.

Wonderful place. NOT FOR KIDS. Lots of nudists. Just like-minded adults having fun. Beautiful water. The beach is off-limits as it is a bird sanctuary.

Mostly good with some exceptions: Miles 2-4 is an "urban" neighborhood where there have been armed robberies. Up in Dunedin there is apparently sufficient congestion that results in pedestrian-bicyclist conflicts, at least one of which led to a ridiculous op-ed piece in a local paper. Many users are unaware that the prior separation of pedestrians/bicyclists has not been applicable for more than five years. Now it's: keep right and pass left. Not a difficult concept. My personal range is from downtown to Mile 17. I have encountered aggressive hoodlums (of both races) on occasion and now carry bear spray, but have not needed to use it.
North of mile 9 up to 17 is perfectly safe and civilized.
And at multiple street crossings, even if as a bicyclist you have the crossing light in your favor, do not expect the car drivers will actually respect that. This is true from mile 3 to 6, and also at mile 8. This includes PSTA bus drivers who are absolute terrorists.

They have a nice disc golf coarse. Be careful with your throws, the discs love to get caught up in the palm tree bark. A couple of water hazards throughout but not to bad.

Getting Past Construction - The Hard Part

During our visit to St. Petersburg (wife had several days of meetings there), I strolled the Harbor, and finally reached the terminus of my walk - Albert Whitted Park, adjacent to the airport, of the same name. It was March, so the Honda Grand Prix setup was in full swing, along with what seemed to be several (several dozen?) infrastructure construction projects.

To get to Albert Whitted Park, I had to detour many times, though have to admit that I found many interesting sights, along that circuitous path.

Albert Whitted Park, frames the south end of the harbor, at the South Yacht Basin, and is beautiful, even with the construction along its periphery - worth the walk, and those detours. Besides the South Yacht Basin views, it abut the smallish airport, so there are several points of interest for almost anyone.

Except for those detours, the pathways are level, and in good shape.

An added bonus is that the Dali Museum, and the Mahaffey Theater are right at the edge of the Park, so basically a “three-fer.” Also, the Downtown Looper trolley (free) stops right there, close to all three attractions.

I spent about 45 mins in the Park, and could have spent more, were it not for the construction at the edge.

I am a snow bird who has been staying in St. Petersburg for a decade, and this was THE most surprising and unexpected tours which I have been on. A family run business whose tours are compelling as they speak from their hearts, telling amazing and true stories about what happened there centuries ago and to the present day. The Anderson family shares the spirit of their stewardship on the land which they now live, lovingly telling about the Tocobago indigenous tribe - almost as neighbors - who lived on this land in the 1500's when the Spanish conquistadors first arrived. Their passion for preserving the sacredness of the land comes through with their amazing and true stories about and their experience living in the Jungle neighborhood for three generations. They know the plants and tell how the Tocobagos used them. They tell stoires about about the first Catholic mass, pirates and about the Tocobago mound which is 25 feet above high tide sea level. This is a magical tour. Friends told us about their visit andsince I had never heard about this place, I did not comprehend their words. It was enough to whet my curiosity. When my wife and I went there for a tour, we were captivated and enthralled by what we experienced.
