    Off the beaten track
    We (couple with teenage son) did the Nam Nern night safari. Great trip and well looked after by the guides. Contact the national park for details.

    We booked direct with them. Very organised. Left our big luggage at their offices during the overnight trip up river deep into the jungle - floating down river after dark to spy wildlife.

    Wonderful experience.

    Vieng Xai cave tour - of caves where Laos nationalist leaders hid from US bombing
    Terrific tour, really fascinating. Audio guide and actual guide worked well together. Learned so much and the caves were amazing

    Such an interesting visit
    I highly appreciated visiting the caves. It was a great moment to learn more on Lao History and culture. The caves are impressive, the visit is well organized, the information given are useful and clear. The houses of the leaders are also interesting in terms of architecture. I recommend taking the audioguide.

    6km from the 'main' road to Houaphan
    The stones are still there, and at least the first cluster is easy to find, on the right, in an area which was clearish surrounded by barbed wire to 'protect' it. The road is rough and steep getting there, its about 6km from the main road - I was in a 4x4, but when not wet I could have made it (slowly and carefully) in a saloon car. I would not go especially to see them, but I would have regretted it if I had not left the main to see them. Its about 90 mins from Sop Lao - it would be easy enough to go to them after coming back from the night safari and still make it back to Phonsavan in time for the later afternoon flight. Their purpose is even more mysterious than the jars !The lichen growing on them is amazing, Due to a mis calculation on time I was not able to look for more along the ridge.
