- Jim WAthens, GA20 contributionsMy wife and I are members of Friends of the State Botanical Garden of Georgia. We visit a lot of botanical gardens on our travels. This is one of the best we have ever visited. The variety and lushness of the plants was outstanding. Getting to see two mother hens with their chick was a bonus.Written 17 May 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Courtney BLos Angeles, CA3 contributionsOMG. Lemurs roaming free and walking right up to you! Jaguar sleeping 5 feet from the glass. Canopy walk. Bats! Amazing zoo. Our 8 year old daughter said it was her favorite part of our trip to Guadeloupe!Written 3 May 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - specasLithuania208 contributionsSince our accommodation was in Grande Terre, we left at 6 am only to arrive in Saint-Claude (the distance is around 100 km) at 8a.m. The parking lot “Les Bains Jaunes” in the village of Saint Claude is very small, therefore, to get a space there you need to arrive really early, before 7am, especially on weekends.
At 8.30 am on Saturday it was a disaster because so many hikers tried to park on the side of the road as close to the starting point of the hike as possible which resulted in traffic jams (some parts of the asphalt road are pretty narrow which makes it difficult to overtake) and the arrival of the police.
The parking lot “Les Bains Jaunes” is the spot where the trail to the Soufriere starts and the natural 30 degree pool is.
Climbing the Soufriere as many other attractions on the island is free of charge. However, you need to remember some things.
1 Check the weather forecast before hiking. Mind that after the rain the path will be muddy, slippery and dangerous.
2 Take enough water and some snacks.
3 Wear hiking shoes. Don't forget the hat and sun lotion!
4 Consider the level of your stamina and fitness (the path to the Soufriere is marked as "Difficult")
5 Don't forget the swimming suit / the towel
6 There is no restroom anywhere around.
In our case the day was going to be clear, no rain, around 28C. The previous days were also sunny, with no rain. We took two 1 litre bottles of water and some snacks (fruit and yogurts). We didn't need a guide since the path led just one way and you could not be lost. We started our climb at 10 am when it was hot already. I am in early 60s, with an average level of fitness, so it took us 3 hours uphill with stops along the path. There were quite a number of young families with children climbing the volcano.
What we saw on the top, was breathtaking, worth hard effort. An amazing 360 degree view, the big crater spewing smoke, many cracks and sinkholes, a strong smell of sulphur. Some sights reminded the scenes from a sci fi movie. We spent around an hour or so on the top walking around, admiring the volcano, having a rest and the lunch. The descent took 2 hours. A swim in the natural spring afterwards felt heavenly.
We were so happy to have challenged ourselves this hike to the volcano!Written 30 April 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. If the food truck line is long (assume at least 30 minutes for food) there are some food trucks out on the main road that are tasty and quicker. There are also a nice shop for clothes and souvenirs. Parking can be tricky. There's a lot next to the beach.Written 23 May 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Jim WAthens, GA20 contributionsCaptain Max from Blue Lagoon recommended we go here for dejuene after our boat trip. The beach is clean, with lots of available shade and a number of restaurants. The food ar Le Boobooj's was excellent. It was fun to sit under an awning and view the beach while we enjoyed our food.Written 17 May 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Shelley KGreenwich, CT113 contributionsThis was a must-not miss stop while in Guadeloupe (the 2nd Chute!)! It's a WILD ride getting up to the parking lot from the main road (and prob 20-30 min) - the road is narrow, esp when tour buses are passing so it's not for the faint of heart! Parking is along the street once you reach the top, so be ready to start your walk upon arrival! The small admission fee is worth the price for how well maintained the pathway is. It's a 15-20 minute walk to access the falls - the stones, stairs and walkways can be slick so definitely have sneakers or real shoes on! You cannot swim here but the walk through the greenery of the rainforest is gorgeous and the view at the end of the waterfall is spectacular and worth the walk! There are steep sections of this walk and while paved, still a bit tricky for little ones or seniors (many of whom we saw struggling).....For anyone who cannot make the walk, once you pay your admission and walk 1-2 minutes, there is a gorgeous view where you can sit on the wall and see not one, but TWO of the falls!Written 18 February 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Steve HKaty, TX55 contributionsThis waterfall is right on the side of Route de Traversee. It's a very short paved easy walk into the waterfall area. Worth the stop.Written 23 May 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- PGOz67Melbourne, Australia21 contributionsThe visit was very interesting, we learnt a lot about the cultivation of coffee, banana and vanilla.
Joël, the guide and one of the co-owner was a captivating storyteller and I fully recommend a visit with him.
Hopefully their farm get more success with the weather and they would be able to develop this project further.Written 21 April 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - EW1964Toronto145 contributionsA great small brewery in a beautiful hilltop location. Staff was very friendly and informative. Definitely worth the drive up the hilltop!
The Gwozey Peyi is a lovely fruit beer that is easy drinking. But watch out for the Piment - made with Chilli Peppers - whoa that is hot!!Written 17 October 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The rocks are slippery. It's a beautiful setting and pleasant water. Great jumping from the rock ledges. Fun way to spend a few hours.Written 23 May 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Allan Frank TSt Martin / St Maarten3 contributionsPlenty of activities to book from here, diving, boat trips etc. Also like 4 restaurants to have lunch or a drink. Th beach itself it's not that big. Definitely the highlight was the boat trip with the bottom glass and a quick swim after.Written 5 December 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - mpasnikowski615 contributionsThe island is really small so it’s actually a sandbank. Gorgeous water around it. You can relax there and have a swim. I can’t believe that it might be gone soon as it will disappear underneath the waves. We need to stop global warming to save places like this.
On the way you can visit to mangroves. Snorkelling isn’t that great as there are very few fish and the corals seem grey.
On the whole it was a great trip.Written 12 January 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. It’s a small beach, but was not crowded the days we were there. No services or venders at the beach, but some days the bar-restaurant up at the entrance ramp is open.Written 16 April 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Steve HKaty, TX55 contributionsThis is a high quality road through the center of Basse Terre. It is often faster than going around the north coast route through Ste Rose. It's worth doing at least once. The rain forest at the top and the ag land on the east side are nice. Good change of scenary.Written 23 May 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
